Even my wife is concerned about her mum trying to take over especially in the beginning and trying to move in lol

Yeah, you need to establish boundaries there - the little person is now the most important person and everyone including yourself needs enough rest - you don’t need to be walking on bloody egg shells

Don’t be taken in by the hyperbole that it’s parenthood is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. It really isn’t. .
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Depends how much you put into it. If you don't think it is tough, you're doing it wrong. Even taking away the moulding of young people into "good" responsible people, everything that goes with it in terms of even just being fully involved and engaged in their lives, ambitions, interests etc is absolutely hard work. And that should be a minimum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you think it’s tough, I would say you are doing it wrong.
I have three, given them all the spare time I have, helped with homework etc.
Raising children is not “hard work”.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

helped with homework being one of your go to things says everything. I bet you 55 plus right?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Laugh all you want. I’m under 50 and work in education, so I believe that helping with that aspect is indeed very important. It helps them have a good start in life.
You think it’s not so important? Then we’ll agree to disagree.

Raising children is hard work, it’s not complex in any way but it takes up all your free time and you need ooodles of patience.

Just because it’s hard work doesn’t mean it’s not enjoyable though, it very much is.

It’s probably had the single biggest impact on my life, I can’t just faaack off to the cinema because I’m bored or stay in the pub all night with my mates. My toilet time is now sacred time. I used to hate Sunday afternoons when I was younger as i viewed them as boring and the weekend ending - these days I love them as I can relax on the sofa whilst the kids watch Disney

Yeah, you kind of missed the point. The fact that you go to helping with homework as an example of your parenting skills when it is pretty much one of the most basic parenting aspects and certainly not any kind of proof of how easy parenting supposedly is. Really weird.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’d be surprised how many parents don’t help with homework seeing as it’s one of the most basic things of parenting. In my experience of over 25 years, about 80% of parents (fathers or mothers) don’t “help” with homework. If it’s so easy to do right, I’m flabbergasted not to have seen more proof of it in my career.

This guy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s not just about helping with homework though, as fundamental as that is to help your child get on.
You must have missed (or ignored) the “etc” that I added after my comment about homework. Obviously there is far more to parenthood than that, far too many to list.
However, I go back to my initial point that I don’t find it “hard work”. I thoroughly enjoy being a father, and with my eldest being on the cusp of adulthood, I can look on with pride with how he has so far turned out. Dame with my other two younger children.
I never worried about getting the latest things (gadgets) etc as I deemed them unnecessary.
Common sense, love, putting food on the table, providing the essentials shouldn’t be “hard work”.
If it is, the parenthood isn’t a good idea for you. Far too much hyperbole around how hard it is.
Just my opinion, but a lot of parents that I have come across fail miserably in some or all of these aspects. A lot get it right though.

I saw the "etc" but seeing as the homework part was such a poor example of your parenting skills, I assumed that the etc was even worse than that.
And you act like enjoying it and finding it hard work cannot go together. Which again is really weird. I find getting up at 5:30, having 3 school drop offs at 3 different schools before 8:20, being home for meetings from 9 pretty much solidly until school pick up time at 3, 3:10, 3:20, back for more work until 5, cooking dinner and then working with them on homework, bathing and bedtime at 7-8:30 (and that's on days without football and cricket training for the oldest) for the 3 of them pretty hard work at times. It's really weird that you'd try to dismiss that and boil it down to clichés like love, food on the table and essentials.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jesus, you sound like a martyr. You make it sound like you do everything yourself (kudos if you are a single parent by the way).
The things that I list are the fundamentals of parenting. Extracurricular activities etc play a part, but without the basics of food, clothing, love what good are they?

I might come across as a bit of a t!t on this article, but I hate the so often trotted out boll ak$ about parenting being hard work. It’s like anything else in life, do the fundamentals, and the test follows.
I stand by my comment that it is not “hard work”. Working in a coal mine, putting out fires in oil fields is hard work.
