Jorginho seems the likely choice ... CL and Euro winner
Never paid attention to these things so do they vote for the season or the calendar year?
For last season Suarez should be close. Messi for the copa. Lewandowski for scoring shat loads again and being robbed before. Maybe an Italian for the euros

It’s based on last season, rather than the calendar year
If based on success then Jorginho
If based on individual talent then Messi
It probably should be one of Lewandowski or Jorginho who have had outstanding years but it will end up being Messi I think. Haaland might be a close 4th.
This is a popularity contest.
Messi won copa america. he scored 30 goals in la liga and 38 overall.
Thats pretty much a slam dunk.
Jorginho won the euros and the CL. he is a defensive midfielder who takes pens, harly the best thing for a popularity contest.
Lewandowski won the german league and got 48 goals last year, 41 in league but was already awarded FIFA poty.
The simple question should be who has most insta followers.
messi 281mil
lewandowski 22mil
jorginho 2.9mil
clearly in a popularity contest theres only going to be one winner.
Let's not be subjective about this. I've looked up the very rigorous criteria for the award. It reads as follows:
1. The Ballon d'Or shall be awarded to the individual who is most famous for being the world's best footballer.
2. In the event that two individuals are widely regarded as the world's best footballer, the one who's team won most will be selected.
3. In a World Cup year the most famous individual for being a very good footballer in the team winning the World Cup may be considered as an alternative.
4. If the individual(s) most famous for being the world's best footballer has had a stinker of a season, the award should go to the the most famous individual for being a very good footballer in the team which won the most high profile competition. Alternatively, it can be awarded to an individual who is not the most famous very good footballer in his team if he wins both the CL and a continental national championship. Unless it happens to someone like Alvaro Arbeloa. Then everyone would just laugh at us.
Glad to have clarified.
Probably should be Messi tbh, brilliant individual season and national success.
Lewandowski or Messi, both had statistically phenomenal seasons last season. Lewa's form has continued into this season but Messi finally helped take Argentina to the Copa in the summer which adds to his chances...
I'd call them pretty even but give it to Lewandowski as he deserved it last year in a more clear cut situation. (Obviously that's not how it's actually go down)
Apparently it's been leaked already and messi has won
"Harry Kane (Tottenham)"
comedy gold!
Messi's last one I reckon.
Lewandowski for me. Partly because he was robbed the season before.
I didn’t watch any of the Copa America, was it really all Messi as has been portrayed? In terms of club football Lewa has been the best last season.
Lewa was good but thought he was rubbish when they went out of the CL to PSG. Pretty much invisible.

Shouldn’t get you a Ballon D’or though.
Still not convinced with Jorginho, Italy were a penalty away from losing the Euro final and I can’t imagine anyone would have been praising Phillips had England won it in the same way. Not saying he’s bad, just nowhere near deserving of the ballon d’or.
Jorginho may not have been the best individual player this year, but that's not what this award is about. It is a team sport and there are no awards for individual performance. So has to be Jorginho for me.
Lewandowski if there's any justice.
3 cheers for Lewandowski!
Should be based on individual players form and brilliance over the year, who has been the best player that year. Not who was fortunate enough to play for the best 2 teams/teams that won the trophies. I don't think it's a stretch to say Chelsea and Italy would've gone far in those comps without Jorginho tbf, even if he did have a great year I don't think he was the best player in the world at any moment let alone across the whole year.

Wow so he finally won the tournament with 4 good teams and a bunch of farmers at the 6th attempt. 29 goals? Kevin Phillips used to do that all the time and that was without the entire team told to pass to him.
