Just to add that ETH has a career %age of 63.14 and at Ajax 73%

Poch fits the profile of young energetic manager who plays high Tempo football.

That has made people believe he is a world class manager but his inability to get teams over the line has always been my biggest concern.

I will ignore the win rate percentages because I have watched his teams and they play decent stuff but something is missing with this manager.

I thought they totally bossed us in the first half of each leg last season in the CL quarters but each time they would fall apart in the 2nd half.

I am starting to feel sorry for him as his reputation precedes him.

Is it? They’re 11 points clear in the table and have qualified from the CL group with a game to spare.

Would a 72% or 75% win rate make that any less a success?

It’s quite hard to manage this PSG side as they only defend with 7 players with a front three who are lazier than Garfield on drugs. They’ll win the league this season for sure but in the Champions league, sides like City or Liverpool would easily pick them off as they’re pretty average defensively and their midfield can only do so much. Poch for his own sake needs to go back to a normal club where he can get players to work as a team.

Win percentage isn’t the best of stats.

I’m headed for a full on ‘just arrived in the bedroom to find Megan Fox naked on the bed’ boner once the Poch appointment is announced.

with the players they have Robb they should be having a better win percentage than that.

its 15% higher than ole's in a league that doesnt contain the likes of city, liverpool, chelsea, spurs, arsenal.

not saying he is a bad manager or not a good fit for the utd job... until it happens we will never know... however in the french league with a team that includes mbappe, neymar, marquinos, veratti, di maria... that isnt great

Win percentage isn’t the best of stats.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not generally a stat person. I like to go with my eyes tell me. So when I've argued rash or Bruno (or whomever ) may not be player being made out it's usually stats that get used to "shut up" the discussion/argument.

I do think there are variables with everything.

Thought it'd be interesting to see people thoughts on these stats, where bar maybe Tottenham Poch has been worse than those who came before or after. In southamptone case by a lot, but his tenure their catapulted him to Tottenham

Poch isn't an elite manager. And I wish people would realise this. He is an upgrade on Ole though.

That being said, Manchester United isn't an elite club anymore and people need to come to terms with that.

Can I just add that my starting this thread had nothing to do with wanting or not wanting Poch. Or if ETH is better etc.

Just saw the stats and was a bit surprised, tbh, and thought I'd share to see the reaction

Not sure what else he can do though.

This season in Ligue 1 they’ve played 14 games and they’ve won 12 of them. They very rarely get all their stars on the pitch at the same time as they’re always have one or two key injuries on the go.

Poch and PSG aren’t a good mix as he’s a long term manager and they want short term success but if he stays there this season they’ll likely win all three French trophies and probably make the CL semis. That isn’t enough for the big cheese at PSG but it’s a good season for 99% of other clubs which shows why he should get out when he can

posted on 25/11/21

But that’s why the stat is misleading. Nigel Adkins was managing in the lower divisions so would obviously have a higher win percentage. As I recall Koeman’s squad was much better than Pochettino’s. It’s a stat without context, which doesn’t really tell you that much. Poch is massively overrated, but you don’t need win percentages to come to that conclusion.

Can I state that I don’t expect Poch to come in and have us be back to the SAF days of winning loads of trophies.

What I do expect is 4/5 years with him in charge and him to completely rebuild the side from the ground up and install a style of play, a far better defence, a far better midfield and a far better attack. I expect him to make us competitive again and to properly challenge for a league title or two. I expect us to be consistent and to be feared again.

I don’t think that’s an unrealistic expectation. Whilst we’re talking about stats, let’s go back to the 16/17 season - peak Poch as Spurs fans will attest. They scored the most goals in the league and conceded the least. Had a plus 60 goal difference - something we never once had under SAF. If we could get something close to that kind of performance we’d at least be optimistic about going into games.

@robb

My biggest worry is that often a bad experience can effect a manager. Some can never rise again (Jose?) And some can (Moyes?).

Poch went from being this new face and "revolutionary" at Southampton and spurs to this guy who has the best if the best but isn't being loved. The fans make h sound Ole at the end for us.

With where we are now, post SAF really, is it a step too soon? Time will tell of course but a dispirited manager will find it a struggle imo

He’s taken Spurs to as many CL finals as Pep has taken City - with far less money spent. #justsaying

I think now is a great time for any manager to take over United. The expectations are lower than ever after 4 failed managers and we have a squad which is in dire need of someone who knows what they’re doing. Someone like Poch would bring some fresh ideas to a squad of players who have been coached by amateurs for 3 years. At the very least they’d buy into it and see what happens.

I'm not as convinced Robb. Like I say time will tell. Poch at Southampton had a system that works for Southampton, no different to Ajax in fairness.

Spurs have levy who can go from genius to villain by spurs fans depending on whether he is selling or buying players.

We are a mess.

Incidentally that's why I voiced Rangnick for manager last season. Think Darren was the only one who agreed. It was his working at all levels and experience rather than him being a great manager alone
