I think they prepared well for the game and went with the two up top, hoping to press our defence and force mistakes which did occur on occasion. They also hoped this would force our full backs back.
Unfortunately for them Liverpool were in top form. Not many could have coped with that.
The owners have sunk a fortune in already and are building them a brand new stadium. The problem is they have pizzed that money up the wall big time and are now hampered by FFP rules.
I do feel sorry for the fans, it’s not their fault. They have a manager they don’t like, a poor side with no fight or guile and no real plan in place to improve things. Meanwhile their next door neighbours are a huge club with lots of recent success.
As a Spurs fan, Everton are the one club of comparable size that I look at and think, thank fueck were not them.
A couple of days ago? Was last night.
Typical Everton seeing it as a cup final.. and full of nerves.
Don’t know what Rafa could have done to prevent them losing.
Tbf few teams look prepared to how Liverpool start games. Atleti are one of the most organised teams in Europe and they got blown away twice - did well to make a game of the first match.
Amazing to think they have spent over £500m, and have the highest Net Spent in Europe over the last 5 years behind City, United, Barca, PSG & Inter.
They were poor last night, but I have said it before on another thread before the game, I don't think sacking Benitez is the answer. They've thrown so much money at trying to break into being one of the big clubs in the last 5-10 years and have probably regressed if anything from when Moyes left.
They have been very inconsistent ever since he left for United but still, they are suffering with injuries to key players. I'm not sure anybody who they would realistically attract would be able to come in and do better than what Benitez would do over the course of the season, because even though they may have a temporary new manager bounce impact, I can't imagine them doing much better than what Benitez would do over the season as they suffer the same fate with many injuries.
Ultimately, it's a depleted squad very low on confidence. It is reason enough to change a manager, but I don't think that's the ideal long term solution.
Ironically two of their better signings recently cost them next to nothing - Gray and Townsend
The owners seem to be getting alot of blame which I find odd. Looks at the money they spent breaking FFP on transfers and then the exciting new stadium. Also hiring these managers have not been cheap.
It has failed miserably from management to chief executive end. No clue, no identity and zero return for the owner.

It’s simple, most the blame lies with the recruitment and then whoever put the recruitment team in. They have bought complete dross.
They're like Tottenham and need a full rework and identity stamped on them. Teams do roll over for Liverpool, when they don't, they get rewards.

They spent over 250 million in recent times???
Now have players nobody wants.
I'm dont see how this is different to anything Everton have done for the last 30 years.
OP
Evening mate.
Friend is Everton diehard and reckons it could be relegation time, with fans turning on Rafa at Brentford etc.

Struggled since the 80's right enough.
They sacked their director of football and brought in a guy who seems equally adept at paying big money for bang average players. Now at the limit of FFP so they had two million to spend. Spent it well in fact on Gray for once.
Of the 380m they have spent you could only really say that Richarlison and Digne have actual quality and Doucoure and Allan half decent. Possibly Mina.
They want to get up there with Arsenal (at the time) and Utd so bought Iwobi, Walcott and Schniderlin.
They wont go down, nor do I want them to, but it's on them. Signing Rafa was bizarre.
They've been unlucky to lose Achelotti though tbf.
spent loads of ££ on players no good enough to take them into top 6
everton have never been the big club they were since the premier league began in the early 90s

"A couple of days ago" versus "last night"....OK!
I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
"What could Rafa have done to prevent them (from) losing?"....He clearly didn't have them prepared to win the game!
Liverpool are just too good a team for Everton to contend with.
There’s a huge gulf in class.
Everton haven't really been a rival to Liverpool for over 30 years tbh
Everton lost their big club status when the Premier League began. Been living off past glories ever since

Only time it’s been close is when we’ve been shiite or that one time they got top 4 only to bottle the CL in the qualifiers.
I never thought Rafa would get the sack, but it must be close
Things don't seem to be getting better, do they? Even the fans are beginning to register their anger at the performances they are seeing.

there maybe a gulf in ability of squads but having had personal contact with both sets of fans, lavirpool stack up to Everton in a negative way in as far as class is concerned. Horrible snakey feckers liverpool fans
