I agree dave - the excuses that ‘next season’ or ‘time to gel’ which get used don’t really cut it with me - we must do all we can to do what we can here and now
Besides building a team for next season always seems to be like a false hope, partly because we don’t know who’s going around next season - with so much transfer movement we could lose half current team and we’ll be back to square 1 saying the new team needs time to gel
I think we must do all we can to get into the playoffs this season and hope we can then kick on
I don’t think teams like Blackpool and others used the excuse of building a team for next season before pushing for the PL - the went all out and got themselves there
There’s a £100M payday for any team that manages to get themselves up there
Cooper has done a magnificent job so far - but today has shown just how think our squad is and just exactly where we need to strengthen if we’re going to seriously challenge
----------------------------------------------------------------------
While I agree that the time is always now, the danger is getting impatient.
Managers are usually given a couple of transfer windows to get a few players in that fit their vision. Nowadays managers may have less say in who we sign, but given Cooper's fantastic start, you'd want him to have those couple of windows before we even judge him.
Going up this season would be great - but would we come straight back down? Moving in the right direction, making the playoffs, and laying foundations for a real promotion season next time would be fine with me.

I’m happy to be impatient. We have a decent chance of making the playoffs and i’d rather see us spend £20 million now and go for it.
We have Johnson and Worrall, plus a lot of expiring contracts to re-coup the expenditure. Plus, we then have half a season for them to integrate, rather than waiting until the summer, to do the exact same thing.
LWB, RWB, FWD x2, LWF, CB.
Let’s stop tarting around.
Re the game? 1st half...worst half of football all season. Second half? If we’d have started like that and Yates hadn’t gifted them a goal we could of won that. Which, seeing as we are on our ninth choice wing-backs, is a positive imo.

I agree with 99% of what you say mate - what I don’t really agree with or understand the philosophy is this idea of ‘laying foundations’
That’s all well and good for teams like Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd etc where they have empires behind them and limitless money
But sadly for teams outside the top 6 or even top Division, laying foundations is just a pipe dream - there’s just too much movement of players and managers and not the infrastructure to have such a luxury of time
The key is to try and get yourself in the Big League and kick on from there - a few have managed to so that…Brighton, Wolves, Burnley etc and Leicester being a really example of how to do it and build on success
There are many others that can’t and become yo-yo teams - Fulham, Norwich, West Brom etc
It’s all down to how you cope once you get there, but the key is to actually do that first and foremost - that is our first challenge - waiting another year or two believing the core of this group of players will still be here is just not going to be a reality I’m afraid
Saying all that, we just totally need to back SC and support him in every department - he’s doing a great job
I think we need to roll the dice too, but only if we can get the right players.
Let's face it Cooper won't be here the season after next if the club do not demonstrate ambition.
I was hoping dat QPR would have won so we’d have that Ertha Kitt us telling porkies on how pony we r
