too young too see us do anything decent in the FA cup
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same. Will have to be one of those semi final appearances under Poch or Redknapp.
Has anyone noticed when we reach an FA Cup SF we usually do quite well in the league? Both semis under Harry came when we finished top 4, and our 2 best league finishes under Poch we got to the semis.
Meanwhile any time we reach a League Cup final it's a finish outside the top 4.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the disappointment of losing the league cup final like we love to do probably has a bad effect on the rest of the campaign.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well when we last won it we turned in relegation form for the rest of the season I seem to remember. We don't like them whatever the result.
If I was to try and explain it, I guess the LC acts as a distraction. If we get far in it then we are not as mentally and/or physically set up to do well in the league and the much later FA Cup. Perhaps the manager and team treat it like the be all and end all of our season if we get to a final, and then we lose focus on everything else.
Could just be that when our main target is top 4 from a fresh season with the new managers properly settled in, then we really do keep the LC on the backseat.

2008, winning the league cup meant that side had achieved all it was capable that season in Feb - a domestic cup and European qualification. We were in no danger of going down so seemingly just sacked off the last 10 games - winning 1, against Chelsea again.
I was at anfield for that quarter final and it was a brilliant day out, ruddock was giving it the biggun tapping his pocket as if he had Juergen in it and when he banged the winner in at the kop end our lot went crazy.
Fair play to their lot that gave our German king a standing ovation.
Everton in the semi was typical spurs win at anfield then get battered 4-1 in the semi,I was at that as well and it was one of the worst feelings I’ve had watching our lot.
Beating Arsenal in the semi at Wembley in 1991 was a brilliant day and so nice to shut them feckers up
Best by far was the 1981 replay v Man City,I was at the first game and it wasn’t much of a game but thankfully we took it to a replay.
Thursday night under the lights at Wembley a brilliant game and Ricky getting the winner was fantastic as he’d been subbed on the Saturday and trudged back to the dressing room looking as if his world had ended.
Seeing him dance thru the City defence and score was magical and I’ll never forget the joy when the final whistle went and when captain fantastic Steve perryman lifted the cup up towards us
Chelsea away quarter final in 82 was special as well

Hey! Sandy is 72, always has been, always will be.
Sandy still vividly remembers the 1878 FA cup final between the Wanderers and Royal Engineers. Officiated no less by a bloke called Segar Bastard
Fun fact about the Wanderers despite only being in existence for a total of 28 years, they have won more major trophies than West Ham.

Sandy was old when he was born. He's like the Curious Case of Benjamin Button without the 'getting younger' element.

Despite all our recent success. That didn’t matteo goal in 97 as a chelsea fan was superb. Loved that team.
More recent ones, can’t remember what round it was - might have been 5th round. Smashing Southampton 6-2 at the Dell, Rocket Ronny on fire that night

I'm 73 now.
My first game at the Lane was a 3rd round FA Cup tie against Altrincham back in January 1979. We scrapped a 1-1 draw thanks to a Peter Taylor penalty but went on to win the replay. The side contained Ossie, Ricky and Steve Perryman but the rest were fairly forgettable.

just because I was a young kid and the atmosphere was unreal, but beating Leeds 2-1 at the lane in a replay when Anderton and Ginola both scored absolute screamers at my end was great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp49CrgN_-A
goals on 1 18 and 2 50.
probably the day I fell in love with Ginola and he became my favourite player until Ledley became the boss.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
apologies, it was 2-0.

2 absolute screamers from Daviiiiid and Old Sicknote!!
Imagine if Ginola’s other 2 shots which hit the woodwork had gone in!! What a hatrick that would’ve been!!!
81 replay and 91 semi for me 👍👍

Gazza freekick against Arsenal. I was nearly 7 so fortunate enough that I can just remember that match.
