Excuse my ignorance, but how does a ref making one of the worst decisions seen and being punished for it make Liverpool huge?
Don't really get why Friend is punished though, should be the VAR who pressured him into it and also missed a rather blatant offside that led to the second.

Agreed. It was VAR’s fault. Any decision that has to be looked at 20 times is not a clear and obvious error.

Because as bad, and worse decisions are routinely made in the premier league, yet nobody says feck all, and the same refs are officiating a week later.
I mean it was obviously slightly tongue in cheek, but it doesn't alter the fact, that when Liverpool are involved, people seem to get a lot more enthused about stuff, than they normally would. π
Defo pen....not sure why refs been removed.

Same with United tbf. Comes with being the 2 biggest clubs in the country.
It’s bizarre that the red is being punished here though. Didn’t VAR review it like 18 times before sending the ref to the monitor to decide himself?
I’m in favour of VAR but not when it’s used like that.

True enough.
Certainly piles pressure on the next ref thinking twice about awarding Liverpool a marginal decision. π

Indeed.
As was said earlier, Friends first instinct wasn't to give it, and then he was called over.
He must feel he's been stitched up somewhat.

Not really. He was given the opportunity to have another look. He could have stuck with his original decision.
He's a terrible ref anyway but the fact is he should have stood by his guns on that pen.
If he had talked it through with his "team" at least we could understand the bottle job he did

Agree with this tbf
I thought it was more VAR facking him over, wasnt a pen but theres been worse. Was the clown in charge of the spurs liverpool game dropped for example?
Or the ref in the city wolves game who gave a pen for handball despite it coming nowhere close to hitting an arm π
VAR were offered the perfect opportunity for once to use 'clear and obvious' and they failed. They then use it incorrectly on other occasions. Clearly when the refereeing made his decision, it should have stood, despite there being a foul from the keeper as there is no way you could tell if Jota had lost control of the ball, had the keeper not clattered into him and the referee had made his call on what wasn't clear or obvious.
However when the referee is asked to watch it, 'clear and obvious' isn't a consideration, he just has to decide whether he believes it's a penalty or not. He decided it was. I don't blame him as it could have went either way. For me the blame lies with VAR, who should have left the referees original decision.

Buck stops with the ref.
Yeah i said it all along no penalty and now the PGMOL
have shown that Kevin Friend made the wrong decision! Surely the bloke doing the VAR should also be removed from his duties for sending Friend to review it!
I bet there’s still the usual suspects still claiming it was a penalty!
The var dude was pawson I think. He is even worse than friend. They both should have got told to sit out.
I still can't believe they thought it was a pen.
Not true, Kevin friend just isn't a full time pl ref

Probably being punished because he didnt spot that is was a blatant penalty to begin with
given kevin friend is wont to ref a game like a Neanderthal with waving cards randomly at some times and ignoring other issues he is no loss.
