He was probably the best player I've seen in the Prem at dribbling through the midfield and getting out of pressure situations. We had Cazorla who was excellent at that too.
Would've been interesting to see him play further forward given his talents with the ball but maybe he didn't have that killer instinct for a shot or assist
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, that was one thing in his game that was lacking, his ability to score goals. But his incredible ball retention and build up play to set up attacks was just superb. Goal scorer he wasn’t though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Got a feeling for some reason that he actually started his career as a striker and was moved back into midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep this is right…..was a striker when Fulham signed him and he played up front for them for a short time before moving behind the striker then back into midfield
I felt so comfortable seeing his name on a team sheet before a match (with Wanyama)
Those two dominated most midfields we played against

everyone's jumped the gun a bit! Reminds me of that time at the tennis in Australia when they announced Andy Murrays retirement and played a big montage video of everyone congratulating him on his retirement and he said " actually I might not retire just yet"

Superb player, his strength on the ball and ability to carry it was was unreal, he didn’t look like he should be anywhere near as strong as he was but oppo used to just bounce off him, he brought so much to us in terms of retention and transition. Struggled a bit when he first joined and then Poch’s team got his fitness sorted and he really started reaching his potential.
I always remember being gutted if he wasn’t playing as we looked a different team. The spring of 2018 he peaked and was one of the best players in Europe, bossing every game in the PL and CL. Then sadly the injuries finally took over. If he’d have had a few more goals and assists in his locker there would’ve been no argument about whether he was world class.

Spot on.
That midfield of Dembele and Wanyama absolutely bossed teams

Possibly my favourite ever Spurs player after Kane.
Good player but a tad overrated

Great player and the peak version is clearly missed at Spurs.
Remember when his agent and our youth coach Les Ferdinand said he was good enough to leave Spurs and go to Real Madrid? I think if he had gone he could have achieved the same success as Modric and possibly been up for a Ballon d'Or too.

One of the greatest to wear the shirt in recent times and probably my favourite player, along with Bale, to have watched over the past decade. There’s nothing better than seeing a player ghost past an opponent as if they’re not there. Men against boys stuff.
Remember the game against Juventus? I think he had 10% possession of the ball. Untouchable on his day.
