I don't get Tuchel and his style of play with Lukaku.
If he picks Lukaku then he has to get the other players in the team playing to his strengths. Tuchl has to take blame here whilst he continues to pick him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very much this. You saw what Lukaku can do when someone crosses a great ball to him in the final. Yet all the Chelsea players like Ziyech and Pulisic do is just cut inside and pass backwards when a cross should be put in. Lukaku would be much better somewhere with actual wingers who cross. Though tbh I’m sure Chillwell and James would have created a lot more for him but I guess we’ll never know now.
Who actually wanted Lukaku at Chelsea? Did tuchel push for him? I can't imagine he did.
Lukaku was still shiiiiiiiit when Chelsea were just spamming crosses earlier in the season as well. Because he’s not very good.

I don’t think he did. I’m sure he wanted Haaland but Roman or the very fit Marina 😍 brought in Lukaku without much of an idea about how he’d be used. More of a ‘narrative’ signing.
The guy is a natural born finisher.
At half time he saw there was a chance to break the lowest touch record and he coolly took his chance.

When he scores a couple against Lille I’m sure all will be forgiven.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why? He scored in the semi and final of the club World Cup and has scored in the league. Goals are not his issue even if he’s scoring or not. All round play is lacking

Not sure what more he can do, he plays with wing backs, has swapped the two wingers next to him, we play several crosses into the box each game. He’s lazy and doesn’t move enough or create space. At first I thought it could be service but whoever we play with him it’s the same and if stems from his lack of mobility. He cannot hold up the ball and play wide and then move again like he did against arsenal. Seems like he’s just unwilling to come to the ball.

Couldn’t disagree more. Azpi and alonso have whipped in several crosses in recent matches, azpi played a lovely ball across to him in the 6 yard box right to him in the cwc semi and lukaku totally air balled it

He's playing like the team has to adapt for him, the problem with that is we're the CL holders! There's an onus on him to respect that & work towards fitting into their way of playing, as well as the manager working towards a compromise to extract the most from him within that framework.
I don't wanna be negative cos I REALLY wanted this to work being the sentimental fool I am, but unless Tuchel leaves (which obviously isn't going to happen) I don't see how this gets better unless Lukaku's attitude changes.
[WhoScored] Romelu Lukaku has lost possession as a result of an unsuccessful touch more times (29) than he has shot on goal (28) in the Premier League this season
Good post devil. I really don’t underStand the “team need to build around him” if he was someone who had done it for years at the club maybe. But he hasn’t. He’s come into an already functioning team and needs to put in the work

I think it somes up the way we play and therefore the suitability of Havertz to that system.although i would caveat that when comparing CL football agst PL football.
But anyway tonight just proves my point that Tuchel is fecking it up by playing Lukaku and not changing the way we play. either don't pick him or if you do change the style and get the the others players to adpt when he is on the pitch. It really shouldn't be difficult to play in two diffrent stryles and this is the first sign of weakness from Tuchel since being at Chelsea..
We will have to agree to disagree on that one biggish. It takes two to tango but lukaku has to lead
Playing two totally different styles for the benefit of one player is impractical, unless you change it up for a big one off match isn't not an efficient way to train a team. If Lukaku was incapable of being a complete forward that could fit into any way of playing competently than at 100mil he's simply a poor signing. But the player he was a Inter was better than this - looked like a complete forward.
The only thing Tuchel hasn't really done that would be a reasonable compromise is play with two strikers to make him feel like he's playing in a familiar system. Werner even kind of replicates the Martinez partnership - he attacks the left channel, Lukaku attacks the right.
You know thinking about it playing with two strikers should have the same effect on Werner, as Lukaku kind of replicates his partnership with Poulsen at Leipzig
People shouldn’t have looked at him flat track bullying at Inter, they should have looked at him being a lamppost at United. Chelsea didn’t even get the United version.
