It wasn’t all good. Just different.

Cost of housing compared to the wages back then is the main thing I guess, which is unequivocally better from that time because it's such a big thing and so disheartening to many from the generation below.

Otherwise, things are mostly different rather than better or worse. Some younger people would love to have grown up in a time without the internet being everywhere, similarly some older people are hooked on these new things and wouldn't wanna do without.

The most worrying thing for me is the culture of people just making up their own truths nowadays. It's really strange and concerning to me.

there were no wars involving me.

What about the Cold War and spectre of nuclear annihilation? The Cuban midsole crisis must have scared the life out of you?

Also you had the Soviet Union invade Hungary, the Falkland’s etc….

What I meant I suppose is, is the I didn't have to put a uniform on and go and be shot at.
The cold War wasn't a daily worry, but yes the Cuban missile crisis was scary.

Was the Cuban midsole crisis anything to do with Cuban Heels in the Great Shoe War? Did the Cubans threaten to bombard the US with Cuban Heels to ruin the US sneakers market and undermine their economy?

I think it's fantastic how the world is evolving in tolerance. My niece who's 15 has four openly and widely accepted same gender couple's in her year group at school.

In as recently back as the 00's their life's would have been made a living hell, at best.

Well you can't just say house prices have doubled in real terms without considering that interest rates were invariably double or worse as well. Can't have it all ways.

And the actual real world cost was far far less. Shut the feck up, you old embarrassment.

There were only a handful of gay people when I was a teenager - They didn't really exist.

Cheap housing effected everyone, everyone benefited.

Gay acxounted for less than a percentage of a percentage of the population.

Not really a good example at all

There hasn't been cheap housing for the masses since the 1960's.

I can't say which era had it the best but I certainly think life was better in the 90's and pre social media than it is now.

I don't use my Facebook anymore. Haven't logged in for months. Only form of social media I still use is twitter and even then i only use it for news etc. I don't post anything or reply to anyone anymore as everyone just wants to argue it seems.

I'd love for life to go back to the mid 90's (United being great again too hahaha).

I wasn't around at that time, but as far as I'm aware the overall cost including the interest rates would have still been much smaller in comparison with your wages than it is nowadays.

Back then many households could do it on one wage whereas now it seems to be a struggle for some two income households.

I bit the bullet.
Scrap that.
I swallowed the whole facking rifle.
Bought right into the rat race.
Bought a house.
Started paying towards a pension.
Even got married.

Then I fell apart mentally.

Divorced.
Sold the house.
Spent years barely able to hold down a job.
Cashed in on the retirement plan.
Pizzed it up the wall on a failed business.

Somewhere along the way I found a new partner, and had two kids.
They're probably the only reason I'm still alive.

Moral of the story:
What worked for you won't necessarily work for others.

No, your right. It's only advice, not a set of rules.
Anyway well done you for turning your life around.
It's admirable and can't have been easy.

Getting old.

When I was young, I didn’t think I’d get old. Didn’t think I’d make it. I’m 54 in a couple of months. My back is gone, my knees are shot to sh!t, I involuntarily fart when I cough or sneeze, I sometimes have minor ‘accidents’ when I involuntarily fart, I’ve pizzed in more lay-bys in the last 3 years than I did in the previous 50, I want to cry when I see flights of stairs, I ponder Velcro trainers on Amazon, I look at my wife and wonder how long she’ll last as my carer, I like food that doesn’t take much chewing……

Can I expect a ‘second wind’ or is this it?
