Pretty classy really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a very decent gesture
Writing off the 1.5b loan and setting up a charitable foundation for the victims of the Ukraine war
————————————
Good to see, unlike a lot of the oligarchs, he actually mentions the word war when speaking about Ukraine
Yep, seems like a very decent gesture and just goes to shows that not all Russians are the Devil incarnate
Makes me think he has no expectation that the war will stop soon sadly
People can say what they want about this guy, and a lot of it will probably be true, but I've said it for years - he cares about Chelsea F.C.
It's amazing (and a little sad) how someone like him has set the standard for what football club ownership should be about in terms of intentions. You NEED to see it like he does. It's not a business, it's a passion!
What’s his relationship like with Putin? A middle finger to him with this gesture
Hard to know exactly what his motivations behind this move are, but you can really tell he does care about the club.
The Saudis must be kicking themselves…
Gutted is an understatement
This must be cheaper for him than getting sanctioned.
Very sad that he's been hounded into this extreme move. But classy to the end and he's been the best owner of a football club in world football, bar none.
My take is Roman has severed ties with Putin. If the Ukraines reached out to him to be a peace maker with the Russian, that would not have gone down well with Putin.
Due to the UK clamping down on Russian Billionaries and with Chelsea winning everything there is, now is the perfect time to exit for Roman A. Don't forget, he is not on the sanctioned list.

Its a ridicuous standard and not a good thing for the league.
Football clubs cannot be allowed to believe that their ownership should pump 1 or 2 billion into the club in order to be good owners.
Such input from wealthy owners has its repercussions on the league and is basically slowly destroying football.
Football clubs should have relied on an equitable system of distributing prize money and a club's own income.
Good owners are those who make a club successful while relying on its own income, not billionaires pumping ill gained profits into the club, surely.
Getting bankrolled by a billionaire is like the worst thing for football in general.
I hope not many clubs go down that route as its not a good example to follow IMO.

Yea a real tragedy. It really puts thousands of dying civilians into context.
This is quite extreme the way he has been ousted. As I have mentioned before you have countries owning 2 PL clubs and they have massacred Yeman but because they are friends with the west they can continue running the clubs.
Roman's daughter was fairly vocal in her criticism of the war, so I had a suspicion Roman wouldn't be too happy either. This decision is probably the least bad one he could have made, to stand a chance of keeping some sense of wealth and standing in the West. Putin will not be pleased. That's for sure.

You get the feeling he has been allowed the time to exit gracefully, probably an ultimatum that he sells up and goes or will be sanctioned, due to his high profile position through CFC ownership.

He has not been ousted, in fact the opposite. He seems to be getting favourable treatment to get his shiiit in order, sell up and leave, currently dodging the list of sanctioned rich Russian in the UK

You kinda missed the point of what I was saying, though I see how you might of. It's simply about seeing the club like a passion, through the same lens that the fans do.
It's not necessarily about the money he's pumped in (giving assurances it won't be called in is the real gesture there), it's the fact whether I or other fans agreed with tons of decisions he's made over the years they've always been what he's felt would make the club stronger on the pitch! Not in the bank accounts, on the pitch!
It's ironic to me. People have said we haven't had a soul for years because of Abramovich, yet in him we've had one of the only owners who's actually given two f's
Hollow, hollow hollow
Coz Chelsea's success is f***** hollow
All that money they took
From that bent Russian crook
And they will never win 3 in a row.
Chelsea can breathe more easily now
If his assets had been frozen it would have left them in limbo
He has said he will not be asking for the £1.5 billion he lent the club and there will no quick sale and all due diligence will be carried out.
