I get it, if West Ham beat us repeatedly for 30 years, no matter how "big" a club they are, I'm sure most Chelsea fans would see them as a big rival too - but the difference is we'd actually admit it cos we're not perpetually bitter.

I’ve never seen a spurs player say this but happy to be proven wrong but some fans dislike Chelsea more than arsenal
This is due to you being bought and catapulted up the league and consistently winning stuff….just a jealous thing

The thing about Abramovich's takeover of Chelsea is that he bought you on the cheap as you were on the verge of bankruptcy.
Not sure how many clubs have actually been bought for 2bn+, but unless you win another lottery, no owner is gonna spend 2bn and then immediately finance Chelsea in the way that Roman did. I'd imagine Chelsea will have more frequent periods of relying on the youth academy producing players they can sell on to remain sustainable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is exactly right.
Even Utd were bought by the Glazers for £800m i think. Roman needs twice that for the deal to 'wash its face' and while a buyer would gain it debt free and well positioned, the returns on further investment are limited, particularly as in being so successful there are not too many more areas of revenue to be exploited, except through a new stadium which would cost upwards of £1bn, probably considerably more.
Their shelved plans proposed an 18k increase, and while this would boost revenues, at +£1bn its questionable whether it would be viable. Spurs spent a similar amount but added 27K to the capacity, 50% more than Chelsea, so the returns off a similar investment are much greater.
If you take Spurs' £35m interest payments from revenue increased by about £100m then there is plenty left over. Pro-rata, Chelsea could increase revenues by £60m at a cost of £35m, so a £25m annual gain from a £1bn investment is a paltry 2.5% return, compared to Spurs 6.5%. CFC would do better by investing the money elsewhere if that is the sort of return gained.
These are just back of fagpacket figures, and the talk at the time was of their stadium costing £1.4bn. It didnt stack up then and will do so even less now.

Bit early to be panicking mate.
I agree, I too am not than enamoured with Conte's style and tactics so far but overall the results have been better, than the Portuguese managed.
The problem is see is that our problems cannot be fixed in one window. A new RWB, LCB, CM and FWD to replace a few going the other way would give a a good XI but the supporting cast would also need investment. Look at Liverpool, only now after 3-4-5 years of success do they have decent depth in most positions. Spenid has not been massive, its been £30m - £45m bracket, selective and methodical...not a Chelsea-esque £240m splurge one summer.
To properly challenge will take time, does Conte intend to stay longer than summer 2023?
I am confident the money is there to spend though, and if we make a few sales then we can get several quality players incoming.

I’m trying not to panic mate 👍
I’m just fed up of conceding territory and possession in every game no matter the opposition
It’s terrible to watch
I’d be much happier knowing we had a long term project in place like Liverpool did but we seem to be lurching from one mistake to the next and levy keeps trying the quick fixes
It makes no sense as his the best appointment he made , whether lucky or not, was a long term project
Conte don’t be here that long so I don’t want us to spend millions on players for him and his system to then have to rip it all up again and start again
I’m very underwhelmed at the moment

Via the players thing, Alli said the Spurs squad hate Chelsea more than Arsenal a few years ago. I'll try & find a link.

👍 fair enough
I understand deles reasoning too
We have been closer to Chelsea than Arsenal in more recent times as rivals and the battle of the bridge was a great match that I won’t forget
Not that I’m saying we are anywhere near Chelsea as we aren’t but just closer to them than arsenal are to us although that’s rapidly changing as arsenal seem to be getting their act together
For the record I hate arsenal much much more than Chelsea though
I have family members who are season ticket holders at Chelsea and go all over Europe to watch them
Could some of the Spurs hatred for Chelsea be due to this.....ie. being passed over

That extra revenue would be good, but our commercial revenue is strong.
Our revenue is bigger than Spurs or Arsenal and we have been balancing the books and winning trophies for a number of years now
We don’t need another 1bn injection

As a club I actually quite like Spurs right now. Your standing atm as the sort of outsider to the elite just waiting for the right set of circumstances to break through reminds me of the Chelsea I grew up with in the late 90's, I can relate to it.
As I've alluded too, possibly my unlucky experiences I don't know, it's some of your fans that sour it a bit. I understand the bitterness & jealousy to a point but it's still off putting. The club itself & what it represents? No qualms.

All clubs have some fans which will put you off acertain club
The fact we are rivals adds to the cauldron between the fan bases
I try and not judge one fan as being a flag ship for all fans of that club
For example growing up I was surrounded by Liverpool fans and was constantly reminded of their history and what they did for football and blah blah …it was nauseating….one guy would pretty much preach that Liverpool created football and everyone should use their blueprint and we should all appreciate them and enjoy watching them
Don’t mind admitting i hated Liverpool back then ….wanted them to lose more than anyone
Some of the Liverpool fans on here can be a bit precious too however I’ve discovered most of them are a good bunch and I was unlucky to grow up around lots of nobs

Do you understand how desperate and pathetic you sound? We were in the old 2nd Division over 30 years ago......around the same time you won your last big trophy may I add. In the decade leading up to Roman coming we never lost to Spurs, won trophies domestically and in Europe and challenged a few times for the title, what exactly where Spurs doing in the mid 90s apart from hanging around mid table? No trophies, no Europe.....just a punch bag for Chelsea.
So using your same logic no Mater what happens to CFC you lot are just gonna be mid table fodder who do nothing.......as that what was happening before Roman
Sandy why do you have a reputation of talking drivel?
Not crossed swords with you since you made an absolute plum of yourself in the lead up to the 2012 FA cup semi along the lines of Barcelona or Spurs softening Chelsea up. 10 years later the question I'd like you to answer is what hurt you more the 5-1 spanking at Wembley or Chelsea winning the Champions League? Serious question.

To be fair I'm not sure how attractive a purchase Chelsea will be. Yeah you have got loads of trophies but your stadium is small in comparison with little scope to increase capacity so i'd imagine that it would be difficult for you to continue to pay some of the biggest wages in Europe let alone compete for the big name players.
Unless you get a similarly wealthy owner as Abramovich then your revenue streams won't compare with your near neighbours Spurs and Arsenal as we make far more every matchday.
As for financially competing with Man City, Man U and Newcastle then forget it!!!
Welcome to 2002.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh and if you are granted permission to either increase the current capacity at SB or move the stadium elsewhere then that expense will have to be factored into any new owner's budget. Think Spurs spent 1b so expect Chelsea to need to spend at least that or even more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
a slum in knightsbridge is valued as the same as a manion in north london your club is in an undesirable socio eco area, even wth a small ground like we have now we are outcompeting you just think of the gulf you ll have to bridge if we do expand youll need to build and fill a 200k stadium and the level your at youll struggle to fill 20% of that

Arsenal got it wrong in the 00s and thought a big stadium and revenue was the key to success.
But growing commercial revenue was also equally important: Chelsea did this very well and became London's biggest club

Can you explain your username? Do you want to give Conte a chance? He was great for us but he is hot to handle
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My username is an area of the city I live in with spurs at the end is all
I’m running out of patience quickly with conte….he is a top manager but he needs top players and we are frankly shat and levy won’t ever give him what he needs so it’s probably best he buggers off in the summer
He is playing the same football as Jose and Nuno did and they were fired so it’s not going to end well
We need a new Poch
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bit early to be panicking mate.

Some spurs fans are going a touch OTT now and need to reign it in a bit
------------------------------------------------------------
I kinda feel like maybe you should beat us a few times after the last few days - get the poison out. Football is great banter & all but it's getting a bit sad.
Or just admit Spurs fans do see Chelsea as a rival, acceptance is the first step & all that? Either will do

Some Spurs players have said they hate Chelsea more than Arsenal.
I get it, if West Ham beat us repeatedly for 30 years, no matter how "big" a club they are, I'm sure most Chelsea fans would see them as a big rival too - but the difference is we'd actually admit it cos we're not perpetually bitter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve never seen a spurs player say this but happy to be proven wrong but some fans dislike Chelsea more than arsenal
This is due to you being bought and catapulted up the league and consistently winning stuff….just a jealous thing
I will reiterate I don’t know why you keep saying spurs fans need to admit chelsea are a rival …..you have always been one and I’ve never heard of a spurs fan saying differently
---------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough, I must be very unlikely then cos I've heard it a lot.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
That extra revenue would be good, but our commercial revenue is strong.
