I doubt it was chelsea fans who got the article removed. More admin done it based on the article itself. Much like this article I don’t know what type of conversation you’d like it to generate. You doing an article on a footy forum doesn’t help the Ukrainian people. Most chelsea fans on this board have condemned any wrong doing from abramovich.

You've all spent the last 2 weeks jumping to his defence. Your fans are still singing his name at matches. I'm sorry but don't pedal these BS lies.

Chelsea fans only care about Chelsea. Similar to City fans aren't bothered about the obvious shady nature of their owners. Will Newcastle fans care about the awful Saudi regime if they win the PL in the next 5-6 years? Nope.

There are no morals in football fanbases. Club colours and club success make you all look the other way.

And what wrong doing would that be?
Appointing Avram Grant? Letting De Bruyne go?

I don't think this article will help. I'm sharing my opinion on this with fellow members of the forum. On ja606 we often talk about major events outside football (at least on the United page) and I have regularly discussed Russia over the years because it's a region of which I know very well and care about. In this case there is a tangential connection to football (though as I have written above, I really can't bring myself to care about the footballing implications of the constraints put on Chelsea, which is why I haven't posted on Robb's article below).

As for the thread that got pulled from the Chelsea board, you may be right that the Admins did it without complaints from your fellow CFC supporters. I don't have any evidence either way. However, I can tell you that the 'conversation I hoped to generate' was a consensus in support of my idea of a statement in solidarity with the people of Ukraine from grassroots Chelsea fans. Of course that doesn't on its own stop the war: to suggest that overestimates Chelsea fans' leverage on Abramovich, and Abramovich's on Putin. However, there is never one silver bullet that changes history, but thousands of smaller levers of influence. And it's my view that when there is a bit of potential leverage in a case like this, it's never a bad thing to pull that lever. I was genuinely very disappointed with the tribal, defensive response I got. I'm aware that's a very small sample that isn't representative of Chelsea fans in general, but the decent ones who are very uncomfortable with Abramovich's ownership were not present that day.

Let's not make this a general 'bash Chelsea fans' thread. The same proportion of United fans wold have enthusiastically supported him had he bought our club.

I like that, RR, and whole heartedly agree; is it a quote from somewhere?

Not everyone but yeah this isn't unique to Chelsea. Football fans are so in love with their clubs and want them to do well that most will look the other way with dodgy stuff. It's all rather sad.

The PL is to blame for all this. These dodgy oil / sports washing clubs should have been banned from the very start but they weren't. The PL have created this monster.

Russian good stuff mate. I guess it’s who you surround yourself with, most my mates, including the chelsea supporting ones are logical and likeminded.

Thing is most of us don’t know the depth of the politics and corruption but if Romans firm have been providing steel for the Russian war effort he should rightfully be punished and gone.

Having said that, I’ve been falling out of love with football and it’s exension of capitalism for years now. What makes it so high end and so competitive is the money for sure but where most thst money comes from is through unethical means. Standard chartered, nike, Roman, Saudi Arabia, where does it end

Do you have anything to say about the comments that you either laughed at or gave a dismissive response to without justification now that those comments have turned out to be correct?

What comments would that be?

Abramovich is a private ireali citizen. He merely fears for his life, hence he cannot speak out against putin.

The UK government still has a lot of work to do to freeze money linked to the Kremlin through other oligarchs not yet on the list.

Hand their head in shame.

That'll do. A wee shaming.

I have a substantial amount of money now stuck in a company suspended on LSE, I'm not happy.

If people really believe the oligarchs are going to have any influence on Russia pulling out of Ukraine they're deluded. They wouldn't have wanted an invasion in the first place.

Rich and powerful people in Russia have connections and eventually Putin will be drinking some special tea. Or someone would walk past him with a pointy umbrella and send him to that big bareback horse ride in the sky

Liz Truss should keep her mouth shut, she's handled the whole build up to the invasion terribly.

Of course there's an influence. Their money and companies help fund and support the war. Thus sanctioning them helps, in part, to defund it.

One of my friends on Twitter has suggested we all club together to buy the Glazers an Ancestry DNA kit to see if they have any Russian in them!

It’s a way of sanctioning Putin. It’s pretty well known that a lot of the assets owned by the Russians connected to Putin, are doing so on behalf of Putin. It’s estimated he’s actually a trillionaire.
