I'm pleased Aubameyang is doing well but the truth is the Premier League is just too intense for him and he has to be carried, when he's not scoring that weight becomes too much.
The fact that City, Liverpool and Chelsea sat on their hands when he became available is very telling.
Pepe has the same problem, to be fair to Pepe he's trying (and so far failing) to adjust.
I think this should be lesson to some fans. We play a very conservative attacking system and that is not conducive to goal scoring. That is something Arteta has to tackle next. It will be easier to do if we are in the CL. Until Arteta takes the brakes off, at least against teams that we are expected to beat, all attackers will look mediocre.
Auba missed 2 penalties in a row for us, missed a sitter Vs Newcastle, and missed a hat trick of chances Vs Watford - including blocking odegaards goal bound shot.
That's just off the top of my head.
The guys heart just wasn't in it anymore. I'm glad going to Barca has reignited that spark.
Strange how our strikers continue to miss sitters but then look the tops elsewhere. I bet it happens to Lacazette as well.
Lacazette barely shoots. There's a reason we wanted Vlahovic.
All strikers need to work space to shoot. Auba/Laca do shoot. But its mostly blocked by defenders. Arteta said it himself after the Liverpool game. We need to do a lot more work in the box.
I think he was hinting at the difference in quality, as opposed to the set up.
Of course Arteta wasn't. Auba is top class striker and we will find it hard to find someone more clinical this summer. Whoever comes in will face the same problems.
We did open up against Watford and Wolves second half. So Arteta can do it if he wishes. The problem in both games was the inability of some weak points to defend counter attacks when you commit further forward. Arteta said as much after the games and tightened up for Leicester, Liverpool and Villa. But as a consequence we found it hard to create clear chances.
So its a matter of finding that balance. Hopefully we can start to be more adventurous against the middling sides and stay disciplined against those around us.
Don't be silly. Managers pump up their players not diss them when they need rely on them!
Auba is playing for Barcelona. We will not be able to compete against potential CL winners for those calibre of players. Mbappe, Halaand etc want to play for City, PSG, Barca, Madrid, etc.
We couldn't even get Vlahovic who has a long was to develop to be in that category.
That's why he worded it in a way that could be misinterpreted by others. But most people knew what he meant.
Why hasn't lacazette been offered an extension yet, by the way?
The last I heard is the club is considering giving him 2 years rather than the one year we have ALREADY offered. Lacazette wants a 3 year contract at the very minimum and at the same wage.
Personally I would prefer we moved on from Lacazette. But Arteta actually wants to keep him. So don't fooled into thinking that this all a playing decision. Its as much a business decision and Edu strategy to go young.
Btw Arteta also wants to keep Eddie.
So we don't actually rate him that highly. Interesting.
