To be honest, it's quite simple. Think of the top 10 best young players in the world right, how many do you realistically think we have a chance of getting if they decided to move? Don't pretend we might not be interested in them as well because why wouldn't any club that has the financial means not be interested in Haalaand, Mbappe, Camavinga etc.

Haaland is exactly what we need given we have no striker under the age of 33 yet we are barely in the conversation because every man and his dog knows we don't stand a chance over City/Real.

For those that still don't get the point, my main point is we don't stand much of a chance IF a certain player is being fought over by several big clubs who are willing to pay the same wages. A lot of ifs yes, but that's my main point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But no-one has disagreed with that. These facts are mentioned in pretty much every thread I see about a potential signing, be it Rice, Bellingham, Kane or whoever. Your article is a nonsense. The United posters on here are accepting of where we currently are in the pecking order.

You have made some narrative up in your head and made an article about it.

The OP used Bellingham as an example, but he did say any other half decent youngster. I mean, we signed Sancho last summer.
_____________________

Well I did mention Sancho as being an exception at the end of the article since I knew he'd be brought up. But as some posters have mentioned, how many clubs were really willing to be 70m+ plus 300k wages during the peak of the pandemic for him? I don't think we had any genuine competition for his signing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

None of us can know for sure. But whichever player is brought up, you are just going to find an excuse to exclude them from the discussion, as you double down on your baseless article.

Tell that to those that brought up Varane, Ronaldo, Pogba as if we beat several big teams in Europe to their signings.

Like I said, Bellingham is arguably the second brightest CM prospect in world football at the moment. There's no way the other big teams won't want to sign him when he decides to leave. My point all along was that we don't really stand much of a chance in that scenario.

The examples posters are bringing to prove the op wrong are poor:

Varane - had an ambition to play for Utd
Ronaldo - returning to Utd
Pogba - returning to Utd
Sancho - no one else was in for him?

Now an in demand player with no affinity to Utd is a different proposition. But bringing in a top manager should help.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well isn't that the whole point? Different players have different motivations. Trying to make a sweeping statement about every player and why they will/won't want to join United is daft.

As for Pogba, he reckons turned down Real Madrid to join United.

Sancho was rumoured to be a target for Liverpool and Chelsea. There was a lot of speculation of Chelsea in particular and he has stated that players from both teams tried to convince him to join them (as did United players).

None of us know with any certainty who was interested in signing any of those players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Indeed there are different reasons—no one is going to move to England for the weather for instance.

In the PL we used to be in pole position for top signings. City and Pool are now ahead of us; there are competitive, have a good team ethic, top managers, and play nice football.

We on the other hand have players that don't even want to be here.

That doesn't mean we can't pull off such a signing, just that it's less likely.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't disagree with that. But I also haven't seen any United fans on here saying any different. Yet for some reason we have opposition fans and some of our own fans repeatedly making posts/threads banging on about how we think we are still top of the tree. Its an absolute nonsense. The OP and posters of his ilk are living in an alternative reality.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't really pay much attention to those who we should sign threads, so no idea what's recently been said. But there are a few posters on this thread who seemed to be quite hopeful about signings.

Varane apparently turned down Chelsea. Pogba said he turned down Real Madrid. I'll give you Ronaldo. Fred said he turned down City. Maguire said he turned down City. Sancho possibly turned down Chelsea. I mean, how many examples do we need?

Either way, I still haven't seen a list of these posters that think that we are still top of the pecking order when it comes to potential signings. Who exactly are they?

Being hopeful about who we might sign and having the arrogance to think that we are still at the top of the tree are very different things. And I've seen no examples of the latter on here.

This article is completely ridiculous. Literally 9 months ago you handpicked players you want ffs. Just face the facts you have made a complete and utter shambles of picking managers.

Think you guys aren't a great pull on the pitch at the moment but your history and your finances will always tempt people. If you can be a the centre of a club like Utd as they rebuild and become successful again then you're going down in history with some unbelievable players and will never be forgotten.

posted on 30/3/22

Yes those things are possible, but the op was about a player like Bellingham who every top club will likely be interested in. So he could probably be in a situation where he can pick between these clubs

............

And he could well pick ours. Like players before him have. Do you still not understand the club you say you support.

We have been in a mess since SAF left. That has not stopped players opting to come and play for us instead of someone else.

There are some very aggressive posters on here isn't there. Seems people become very defensive and abusive when someone doesn't agree with their opinion. Sums up the world today.

Your OP is more of a comment on the world today. It is not a case of anyone disagreeing with you. It is a case of you being wrong either on purpose or through having no clue about the club you support.

And over that time the mess has gotten worse—we now have players who can't wait to get away—and our rivals have become stronger.

We also probably won't finish top 4, and we still don't know who will be our next manager. So I wouldn't get your hopes up for this summer just yet.

We’ve improved since then under Ralf but still have a bit of a jump to get back to the higher points of the post SAF years. But I’m sure we can agree it’s not as impossible as people like Nohlman and others think
