He's well down the list for returning caps before the wife beaters, swindlers, others with controversial opinions and what not.

It's kind of fascinating watching him slowly succumb to the conspiracy madness.

I'm sure we've all seen it happen to people we know on facebook but not so much to high profile people like Le Tissier.

He truly believes it, most of those who spout it in the media don't, they do it for their personal gain. That's what i think makes it fascinating.

His opinions are not terrifying. Idiotic perhaps, defo not terrifying.

The wackiest one and someone who isn’t just all ‘hey, I’m just asking questions’ is Randy Quaid. He’s not just down the rabbit hole, he’s a full on rabbit. I rewatched Kingpin the other day as part of my yearly worship of the classic and wondered whatever happened to Randy Quaid. I implore you to check out his Twitter. Part of me prays it’s parody but I really doubt it is

There are lots of cases of public figures who start off fairly grounded in reality but fall down a rabbit hole and it's always curious what happened. With some it seems clear they are grifters or attention seekers who see a market / audience for a particular type of content. With others they seem to have been radicalised by mid-life exposure to the internet, like the older relative that most Americans seem to have. And with others there's very palpable 'divorced man' energy radiating from the anger and thirst for relevance.

Does anyone know if he was like this before Sky Sports let him go? Maybe that perceived sleight put a chip onto his shoulders

Is it slight or sleight? Never typed it before and now in that brain freeze where words don’t seem real

This will come as a shock to many but actually if you play Championship Manager 94 for the required 28 seasons Matt Le Tissier does usually get sacked as an ambassador for Southampton FC after publicly denying Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

For the record I'm not that interested in what he or any other 'conspiracist' has said but the 'fog of war' is real, complex and not limited to the antagonists.

As unlikely as it seems that Zelensky would or could do such things we know that he cannot have success without Western aid so it would be in his interests to portray a certain propaganda. For the West, it is in their interests against Russia also so there would be no counter provided the action was limited.

Sensible and well researched viewpoints are simply not profitable. Only extremes will get you clicks, shares and comments these days.

I have noticed a worrying trend towards things not just being misleading, but deliberately incorrect. This means that it will get loads of people interacting with it to point out that it is incorrect. This gets way more interaction than something that is correct.

I have also noticed the style creeping into football punditry over recent years. Pundit deliberately makes a wild or incorrect claim and it gets loads of people angry on social media. Where as if they had a reasonable viewpoint, no one would be talking about it.

I do wonder how far it will go.

I thought Garth Crooks' Team of the Week was already far enough and that was before it was a thing.

As a life long #SaintsFC fan who grew up hero worshiping Matt Le Tissier, I now have a great deal of empathy towards The Smiths fans who've had to put up with Morrisey... at least they still have Johnny Marr. I've only got Francis Benali left

Matt Le Tissier with the most tragic narrative arc to come out of Southampton since the Titanic

A lot of the COVID conspiracy stuff comes from those with "neo-liberal" political views. They saw lockdowns (especially the threat that caused to free enterprises being able make money), mask-wearing, potential vaccine passports, as an attack on their values and therefore went down the conspiracy track, forming an unholy alliance with the anti-vax/anti-big pharma brigade.

It is not a coincidence that many of these neo-liberals had a lot of time/respect for Vladimir Putin (Banks, Tice, Farage and let's be honest, Trump - who just left Syria to the Russians without debate). It's been well documented that for years Putin had seen Britain's departure from Europe as a means of changing the balance in Europe between East and West. Hence, we're seeing a lot of those who claimed the whole COVID thing was a big conspiracy now saying the same about the War with Ukraine. Whether he knows it or not, Matt Le Tiss is being influenced by Putin.

It is fascinating how he's gone from thinking Covid is overblown > it's a hoax > vaccines are a form of control > earth is flat > Russia are being framed.

The first one was a somewhat reasonable conclusion even if I disagree with it, but it seems to have started him down a path where he now thinks every little thing is some form of conspiracy.

Crooks and Lawro have been at it for years, they pull all the strings. Liverpool have gone 32 seasons unbeaten in Lawro’s world and Crooks is still choosing Teddy Sheringham in his team of the week.

Matt Le Tissier should be the face of the campaign for banning headers in football.

More than anything else it’s flat earthers that worry me, it’s fecking preposterous. Covid - kernel of truth that it can/has been used to control the population to some degree. Zelensky - kernel of truth some events have been slightly exaggerated for greater impact and to garner greater support.

Flat Earth is just complete horse bollox that anyone with a brain can work out is not true. I don’t even get the idea of the movement - who the feck would gain from the Earth being spherical rather than flat. Grown people who were presumably educated believe this nonsense

"There's a VAR check at Turf Moor, what's happening Matt Le Tissier?"

"Well, I'm being shown footage of a goal from Harry Wilson which VAR wants to disallow for handball, but the real question is, should I trust the cameras here? Or is this just what Sky Sports wants me to see?"
