What a lovely goal too. Perfect player for the new ETH era!

He should get games to prove himself. Maybe he could be what we thought Mctominay would be

His gameplay is closer to Carrick. McTominay - if anything I'd look for someone like Fletcher as example.

He has played in important role this season. Forest are pushing for a place in the play-off positions and have good form at the right time. Would be great experience for him to gain promotion into the top flight with Forest.

As much as I want to see him given a chance, that might work our well for all parties if they did get promoted. Another season there on loan in the PL could help him continue his progress.

This is how I feel about it. Look at how Gallagher has improved exponentially from regular game time in the prem.

Yes, but Chelsea have Kante, Kovacic, Jorginho, Saul, Lotus Cheek in their midfield. We have Fred, McTominay and Matic

Which is why we need to buy some midfielders. I won’t complain if Garner does return, though. I just think it will be better for him to play regularly in the premier league, I can’t see that happening at United just yet.

posted on 7/4/22

Fair enough. I still think we'll have a very big team refreshment next season. So anyone we can promote from youth team probably helps as I don't trust our board to be able to make 5-6 transfers + clearing out deadwoods (Martial, AWB, Baily, Jones...)

posted on 7/4/22

By all accounts he’s going to be given the chance to impress in pre season, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Hopefully he gets a chance to prove himself.

Need a clear out at the club over the summer.

Bruno did a Twitter Q&A and he was asked which person in the United squad excited him most and he was very firm in saying Garner

The guy might need a PL loan before coming back but I’d imagine if he does well he might be starting for us in 23/24

If he can't get past Fred and McTominay at age 21 then he's never going to be a top player.

The time is now for him surely. There will never be a better opportunity to take a first team midfield spot at United for anyone.

Poor take. Do you just live on the United board? Almost worse than Kash

Football fan likes to talk football. Shocker.

I'm not sure how it's a poor take, it's the lowest quality midfield in my lifetime at United. If he can't get into it, he certainly won't be making it at United.

fred has actually been decent this season

At this stage i'd chuck a traffic cone in the centre.

Chuck him in the deep end, see if he sinks or swims.

Youd have to imagine next year we wont be in the mix until ten hag has a while with them. Get him in there alongside donny and lets see what they are made of.

He's only just turned 21, no rush. Ideally he gets promoted with Forest and plays with them for a season in the PL.

Let him flourish and play regularly at a side where he seems happy and is clearly developing rather than risk throwing him into our mess of a club right now.

I have just watched a few of the recent YouTube clips of him and he looks to have filled out a bit and looks more the adult now than the youth player.

I know that Forest fans hold him in high regard, so lets hope he makes the next step up. He, imo, is already better than McT.

We would need to move to a three man midfield to probably get the best of him.

Very poor take as 21 for a midfielder is still young. How many of the best midfielders in the league are 21?

The relevant question would be how many top class midfielders aren't better than McTominay by aged 21?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are plenty of midfielders who are talented enough but not ready to be a regular starter for a PL side with aspirations at the top end of the table. Players develop at different paces. Decisions are made about their development track which may be wise or misguided. I have no idea how Garner will perform at the top level but it's pretty basic thinking to say 'if he's not better than McT yet, he never will be'.
