It was like that in mens football for a while until most nations - bar San Marino - caught up. Womens football is great as evidenced by the recent El Classico.

Naaah, its still like that. Most qualifying games are like training games for the big teams in Europe.

Maybe the likes of Latvian ladies foootballers werej just brought straight from their kitchen sinks and placed on a football field.

It’s actually 63 goals scored and none conceded now Sandy! Total joke really and must be totally demoralising for the teams getting thumped by such a margin

Womens club football is a lot better though

It's fairly comprehensible, really.

Women's football has only been professional for a few years in a handful of countries; it's completely normal for the rest to have a lot of catching up to do. And in many places, women doing sports that have traditionally been associated with men is widely frowned upon socially, and sometimes even restricted legally.

You even see that still in the UK, despite it being one of the most liberal countries in the world. This article, and the general response women's football gets on this site is perfect evidence of the fact.

If you think about it, the results quoted are probably not too different to those England's men's team might've got if it had played a lot of those countries back in 1910, only football wasn't anywhere near as organised and international travel wasn't as easy back then.

I think it's great that women's football is growing in popularity.

I've tried and failed to watch a women's game as the quality just isn't there but am happy for it to get plenty of publicity and hype.

Young girls have/had so few sporting role models to look up to and I'm sure that's effected participation. If the recent hype of women's football gets more girls playing then that's the most important thing.

Would you feel demoralised if your pub league side came up against Liverpool, City or Arsenal and got thumped 10-0?

Course not. You'd be well aware of the chasm in quality and physical preparation and be thrilled at the opportunity to face some of the best players in the world.

If anything, for the younger girls in those lesser sides it could well be a source of inspiration and encouragement to improve, and allow them to dream of a better future if they work hard enough. Simply in terms of what it might mean to many of them as to what women can achieve if the conditions are appropriate can even spur some of them on socially.

It might not be a huge sport now, and may be a galaxy away quality-wise, but if you think of it women's football probably has a much more important role to play nowadays in terms of achieving social progress than the men's game has.

Wether it should or not, the BBC are going to do their very best to ensure it gets as much exposure as possible, won’t be long before MOTD is alternating between men’s & women's games during the show

The point is though, England will probably lose to the first decent side the play in the actual finals, then there will be floods of tears from the women.

I really do not see any point in just thumping teams 10-0, and women`s football is not new, it has been around for 100 years.

I would feel totally demoralised if my teams was getting constantly thumped 10-0 or worse. And would think what is the point, and go and play or support another sport.

Let`s be fair the likes of San Marino, Luxumbourg, Andorra have all been around on the men`s football scene for 60 odd years now, and none of them have improved one iota, they still get regularly thumped. The women`s game will not no different. In 50 years time, the results will still be exactly the same in all probability.

Probably 1960s, so 60 years is still plenty of time for it to have become competitive.

It's like England playing a bunch of easy teams in the men's game to be fair. The scores might be way bigger but you know you're going to beat them 3 or 4 nil at least. The women's game needs time to grow just like the men's did so that the gap will be closer between the good and the fodder. That said there is always going to be a gap between ourselves and countries like that, just as there is in the men's game.

Not for me and that’s nothing to do with sexism or anything of that sort, but woman in general are just not good at football, it’s just a fact. The quality is extremely poor. The goal keeping a joke. I have seen U16 boys with better quality. In fact, didn’t a youth team beat a professional women’s team? It’s just not for me and I don’t think it will ever truly take off, despite Sky and the PC brigade desperately trying to shed light on it.

I came to say something but can’t put it better than this.

Some countries simply won’t have developed their women’s side of the game yet, so these results are to be expected.

Domestic women’s football is good entertainment and getting technically better, which is brilliant to see.

My question is how long before a woman manager gets a gig in men’s professional game? Not saying there are any candidates now, but surely in 10 / 15 years?

Never going to happen in a million years, the little women`s football I have seen is lacking in any real quality.

That’s the players though Sandy, managers don’t need technical ability. I’m not saying it will definitely happen, but 30 years ago people would have laughed at professional womens leagues or female referees / linesmen (or lineswomen!).

Who knows, could be some female genius managers out there?! Suppose it would be naturally tricky to command respect of a male squad.
