Tbf it was a problem in the latter years under Fergie as well. Mike Phelan has a lot to answer for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a YouTube video of every United goal in the Prem. Early on, Mike Phelan is playing, of course it was early on in the video, but Mike Phelan clatters into the post and goes down almost fatally injured, whilst everyone celebrates around him. Fcking hilarious. Me and my brother used to despise that guy as a player, I was only 8-10 or something. If you couldn't dribble, score or tackle hard you weren't a favourite. And he did not have any. I shall find the link, as it may explain why he's a bit dull, he proper whacks the post. Possibly a eunuch.
Sorry it's a player he hits not the post.
Or maybe the ball busts him?

7.07 for the incident, but you probably want to watch from 7.00, or maybe the beginning, because there's some golden football in the lead up.
Phelan ball has scarred me for life.

It’s not helped him that we’ve had crap managers and squads. He shouldn’t have come back really, he’s wasted the best years of his career.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's funny how Bruno Fernandes managed to come in under the same managers and teammates and win player of the year and fans player of the year in two consecutive seasons.
Why has he managed it but Pogba hasn't if they've had the exact same manager and teammates?
Application and attitude. That's all this comes down to. Pogba likes to do the pretty side of the game but has no intention on doing the other bits. That's a truly massive flaw for a CM.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a good argument CM isn't his best position.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then what is? He’s been average on the left and at 10 also.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I would say something along the lines of two 8s / no.10 depending on the manager/tactics, or at least in those areas.
We know his defensive (in)capabilities, so remove those from him him, akin to a striker and let's set him free to strike. I would imagine if he gets 3 decently crafted shots from the 12 to 24 yard zone, he's banging one per game. Assists are immeasurable, depending on his fellow trench-dwellers at the time.
And when you have players like Pogba (and maybe Ronaldo) getting doubled up on or tight marked, the rest of the players should be cleaning up.
Are they though?

don't!
Would love to hear Ace's thoughts on Phelan at United.
I have a bad Phelan about this
Killed it as quick as Poggers losing possession.

This does make it easier for the club to let him go without much fight (didn't want to upset the players) and for Pogba to leave (didn't want to cause unrest).

Jesus. As if they make business decisions based on feelings of players or fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed - they'll keep him for his commercial appeal

Not seen the video but sounds like Cantona's first goal for United. Scored at Stamford Bridge. Sharpe with the wingplay to Phelan who knocks it back to King Eric.

What a touch by Phelan, before getting dethroned by the ball, then the player.
Phelan played for England just once vs Italy at Wembley. I was at that game. Phelan came on as a sub for Robbo. It was a 0-0 draw.
Hopefully that is not true, he's done nothing to warrant even half what he's been offered
