If Liverpool won the CL this season and came second in the league, I would envy you, and you have a great team and manager.
But could you, hand on heart, say you were the best team in England?

If we had won the CL this season I would have been chuffed. But I wouldn't for a moment we were the best team. Not even in Manchester.
The table tells the story, and we all know it.
But for glamour and excitement CL is tops.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You wouldn't win the CL though precisely because you are not that good. 2 of the 3 best teams in Europe will almost certainly be in the final.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's often not the case though is it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well the two best teams in the league draw both games against each other so the league is going to come down to who got the most points of the 18 crap teams in the league.

Whereas the CL will come down to who got through to the end with the likes of PSG, Bayern, City, Liverpool and Madrid competition for it, all of which, Liverpool/City still tbc, won their own leagues at a canter.

It seems a bit arrogant to me to suggest it's better to win the English league, rather than a competition involving the best from the best leagues around Europe.

Plus it was harder to win then, you had a really strong Barca, Real, Valencia, Bayern, Milan, Juve, Inter

Now there’s a half okay Madrid and PSG who always bottle things
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes that's because instead of them being the best teams in Europe, now City and Liverpool are. So it's harder for those teams you mentioned to win it.

Or, European football, like English football is in a bit of a rut atm, making it easier for clubs like City & Liverpool to capitalise

United only won all those leagues as the opposition were crap.

Yep that's the argument.

I don't know if it has happened, and can't be bothered looking it up. But theoretically you could finish fourth, qualify for the CL, and be nowhere near the title. Next season you could be sixth and win the CL.
In what world are you the best team?

liverpool won the cl in a year when they finished 5th in the league, level on points with bolton; chelsea in a year when they finished 6th, behind newcastle. these may be rarer occurrences these days though.

i'll tell you what is really arrogant though, and that is telling a bunch of city fans that they really do care more about the cl than the pl. personally i have absolutely zero idea whether boris/paul/carter etc would rather win in europe than in england, and that's just one reason why i wouldn't spend time on the internet telling them that they are lying, and that i know better than they do what trophies they prioritise.

PL 100% for me too.

Incidentally, whilst my view on which is the best trophy to win has never altered, I really think Liverpool are a great team, and I think you will win at least a treble, and with the PL on a tightrope a chance of a quadruple, which will never be beaten.
I'll just go an throw up now.

You could win the league and go out in the first knockout round of the CL, when you could theoretically face one of the best teams in Europe. In what world are you the best team?

Yes, you can certainly win it when not the best team, Liverpool for example being defensive and countering, Chelsea did it too, as did Atletico I believe. Although you can also win the league doing the same, as Leicester proved.

The PL is always the one you want to win, obviously the CL would be a big win but there is much to dislike in the way it is set up.

You can probably predict most of the last 16/last 8 of next year's competition already and that isn't great. Seeding and groups are good for the TV companies and money for UEFA but City/Liverpool/Chelsea/Bayern/PSG/Real/Porto pretty much know barring a disaster they will make the last 8 next season, certainly the last 16. The lack of variety isn't good. I don't know what the answer is, the money brings world class players to the best teams and nobody wants to go back to the days where a few soft ties could see a team through to the final but the current format is stale and biased to the bigger teams in western Europe. The PL over 38 games always will be won by the best team, the CL may not be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s an interesting take on the CL - obviously you will have the same 6/7/8 teams in the later stages as they are the richest and therefore have the best players. If you want the odd lesser team to get through then you need to go for a straight knock out comp. Given the worldwide popularity of our FA Cup, I’d love to see a huge European knock out comp of the same style, with smaller teams in the early stages and bigger teams coming in later - but knock out all the way. No reason it couldn’t run alongside the CL - I’d be happy to drop out of the league cup to be in it!

The CL/European cup went stale at a similar time domestic football started to when there was the boom in wealth and movement of footballers. Not sure there’s much difference they can make to it from a competitive perpective.

It’s a trophy I’d very much like to win. I’m not as emotionally invested in it as I am the PL though, and I did have a choice the last couple of weeks and went to the Brighton game rather than the Madrid one.

I see the European games more as an opportunity to see different players live than usual, although we’ve had certain teams far too often recently.

The Premier League is the No1 priority, it’s by far the greater achievement.

If the dippers only won the League cup they’d claim it was their priority! 🤣🤣

Why do you insist on mocking poverty? I know you have a low mental age but surely even you realise that it exists everywhere, not just in Liverpool?

I can see exactly what you’re after here Termite playing that card, but I’m falling for that one because we all know what faux rage it creates amongst you dippers!

I’m not playing any card. I hate the term ‘dippers’, it’s not faux outrage. There’s no misinterpretation of what it means, it’s mockery of people who live in poverty, and utter clowns like yourself throw it around like it’s the funniest thing ever. Caant.
