Will be interesting when United need Liverpool to win the CL to get United into the next seasons CL. Wonder how many United fans would happily take the Europa instead.

Number of group matches? Do they mean groups as there’s only 6 games per group anyway

It’s all a load of crap anyway, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the current format. They’re inflating the competition with extra teams so they can make more money. A reduction of games is good though, gives players a bit of a breather.

They were extending it to that silly group thing were 10 teams are in each group.

I don't know why UEFA keep wanting to tinker with things (well I do, money) when the competition is perfect already.

I saw there's also discussions about scrapping two legs and having the semi finals and final held in the same city over a week

I thought that worked really well in the Covid season tbf. But surely that would be less money for them.

I think you'd lose a lot with no second legs as that's often where so much of the excitement in the CL comes from.

Just over the last few years you'd have none of the comebacks of Barca v PSG, Liverpool v Barca, Spurs v Ajax, City v Madrid and so on.

Just want these changes to end already

Really don't like this idea which is why I'm delighted United have decided to not compete in next season's CL as a form of protest. It should be based on merit alone.

There just creating safety nets to ensure as many of the big teams as possible don't miss out.

Just the same as the World Cup expansion, they want to avoid scenarios where countries such as Italy do not qualify.

It’s still crap.

Should be a straight knockout with only the champions of each country qualifying. It was just better like that, it's a bloated, boring mess now.

The current set up is actually good as it is. I feel like the new set up is there to make sure super club league isn’t formed so it’s bit of a compromise

So a load of games like Champions of England vs Champions of Romania, sounds just as boring to me.

This plan to give more money to the richest is a great idea. Those with the most money should get more money due to having the most money. Makes sense and encourages great competition.

Would be awful if it was like that now.

No, just less games, bit like the FA Cup (it isn't a radical idea).

The money men won't have it, and the overseas TV supporters who are waiting for ESL2 wouldn't like it, but it was a purer competition.

Reaching 1st qualifying round
€300,000

Reaching 2nd qualifying round
€400,000

Reaching 3rd qualifying round
€500,000

Reaching group stage
€15.64m

Winning a group stage game
€2.8m

Drawing a group stage game
€930,000

Reaching last 16
€9.9m

Reaching quarter-finals
€10.6m

Reaching semi-finals
€12.5m

Losing in final
€15.5m

Winning in final
€20m

More teams means more clubs to distribute those amounts...obviously the devil is in the details.

If the group stage money drops and KO rounds increase then it will just be advantageous to the big clubs as overall they usually reach the KOs more.

Less games is also a plus imo

Yeah, imagine City getting to the final after playing the San Marino, Albanian, Croatian, Greek and Swedish champions. Aggregates of 10+ wins most rounds

Not sure that's a good example, the FA cup is pretty boring now too, but that's my opinion.

In the last European Cup 32 teams entered at the first round. There’s 55 member states in UEFA now. It’s daft thinking they’d be comparable.

Anything's got to be better than the borefest we're saddled with now. The group stages are like watching coastal erosion.

Your issue here is you’ve been watching United.

The group stages throws up some grate ties. It’s a better format than returning to the old format. It’s just not viable with the amount of UEFA members.
