If Zak Crawley is the top scorer then it must be a better of a pitch. All the batting has just been poor and the bowling decent but not extraordinary. And that is the case on both sides.
As much as we are having a moan, NZ are the best team in the world so they were always going to battle back and battle hard. If we had subsided for 132 in the first innnings, they would have raced past us for the loss of 1 or 2 wickets at most.
We need to ensure that when we lose a session, that we avoid losing it badly or lose the next session as well.
Until from an early age our kids are taught too press forward and play later.. Nothing is going to change.. You look at Crawlys technique. hes across the crease side ways and he plays with a high bat lift.
The old high bat lift is my major gripe. You really need to be a good player to get away with it.
It's why we need Ben Compton in. Low back lift and just looks to nudge and nurdle runs. He won't dominate a bowling attack though so will be ignored.
nudging and nurdling is fine. as long as you can go at 2/3 runs an over. Getting stuck is a problem..we've seen that with Sibley and others.
Crawley`s shot to get out was stupid, he had done all the hard work to get himself in, in some testing conditions, then throws his wicket away and triggers a collapse

17 wickets on day 1. If that was a test in India we'd all be complaining poor pitch?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Have we ever seen that many wickets down at Lords on first day...I'd say not
Also...how is it we keep appointing coach after coach (Batting) Ramps Trescothic Thorpe..etc & we learn nothing...
Is it teaching methods...are players just thick & don't learn from mistakes...what...?
Come to that...why do we keep producing & playing batsmen that have all these errors in their game....Joe Root is really the only exception currently....Cook prior to him

Definitely the defining moment, he had to go on and make a big score, had a great start then a brain f*rt
questionable mentality is the key
Worst bit is Sandy will be on here complaining about another 2 day test match

I'm with him for once. 2 day test matches feel like a bit of a cheat.
I think New Zealand will bat us out of the game and into day 3 though.

I agree. I think the Kiwis will get around 220-250 which will be more than enough.
Thing is...it's not a given that tests go to the full run...and usually when they do it's a snore fest

Shandy is a WUM of the highest order
Has Foakes ever been allowed to have a partnership? Our tail seem to slog around him as he tries to play test match cricket. Invariably has to throw his wicket away as he runs out of partners.
Utterly pathetic from England
Would put Jimmy ahead of Broad. At least he tries to play properly and give the proper batsman a chance to accumulate runs.
Broad can have a slog after him.
Disappointing dismissal from Foakes. 130-9.
Joke of a side with the Bat.
No one seems interested in hanging around.
Had them 45/7 just over 2 sessions ago and are now behind in the game

Lords is always low scoring. But even so, this is absurd.
