I agree with a lot of this. But this summer will really define levy imo. Liverpool made a couple of good signings and won the league. Nothing’s impossible
* if you have the right ambition
Brexit added an extra 20% minimum to the cost of building the stadium. Another hurdle Levy had to overcome.
To save some time the ENIC outers will say 1 trophy in 20 odd years and no signings in that one year when Poch was here. All valid points.
Levy himself admitted he took his eye off the football side before hiring Pararici.
I believe when the stadium was in the process of being built, the banks put a restraint on the club having a negative net spend in the transfer market during those Poch years. Up to you if you believe it or not.
We often criticise Levy for having no plan on the field, which again is valid, as he pretty much admitted it but his long term vision for the club is now at the end game so to speak.
As you say Greaves the training ground and stadium have now been built and we are about to have a full year of crowds at the new stadium with football, rugby, boxing, nfl and concerts all booked.
I'm not Levy In or Out but I have always been able to see what his vision for the club is. Now that we are at the end of the project in terms of building a stadium, which will contribute to the strengthening of the first team plus the cash the extra cash injection by ENIC, it is upto Paratici to deliver more excellent signings to help Conte.
For one I am optimistic about the future with the evidence that the club is moving in the right direction. In years gone it has always been blind optimism with a ton of hope.
We still have to seal a naming rights partner to boost the coffers some more. Exciting times ahead but as always with Spurs, proceed with caution!!
Great article Genius. I concur with all of your points. Daniel Levy gets a very negative support from lots of our supporters. Very unfairly in my opinion. He is absolutely Spurs through and through.
I think people will need to realise that we will still get knocked back in the transfer market and it won’t be Levy’s fault - by all accounts we’re offering everything Inter want for Bastoni and will comfortably meet the players financial obligations - the issue is that a 23 year old is not sure about leaving his homeland and boyhood club. You simply cannot blame Levy if Bastoni does not join and I’m sure Conte won’t.
We will have other targets and we will land plenty this summer, just as long as they are players Conte wants.
I still feel Levy has got a lot of things wrong in the past - there were times when backing Poch with just a bit more could have resulted in a trophy or two but we didn’t pull the trigger. The Nuno appointment was an utter shambles. However, rather than panic with the ups and downs of the transfer window, let’s just see if Conte is happy at the end.

So you too were disappointed when mourinho was hired?
I think Levy realised at that United game things couldn't go on like that. It was a fans revolt, and he hates that.
Since then, he's been spot on. Hired the best manager available the next day and has allowed Paratici to do his thing in the transfer market in January.
All signs looking hopeful for the summer, but I won't judge until the end of the window.

Don’t think there is any doubt about how great a chairman Levy has been when it comes to the off field stuff, but by and large when it comes to the onfield handling of the club he’s been very poor. Most people tend to compare him favourably to Alan Sugar whilst arguing his corner but overlook the fact that that the Sugar years were notoriously awful ones for the club and the fact still remains that in the 21 or so years ENIC have been in charge of the club we have five CL qualifications and a solitary league cup. Not a great return.
I fully agree with Smeg that this summer really is a defining one for Levy, and I know we seem to say that every year but this one in particular really does feel pivotal.

This is all so called ITK, but how do we know that the club are just leaking information that they want the fans to hear.
Levy is very clever, a grand master at mugging the fans off, and the club are very careful with what information gets out. Of course some information will come from agents etc, they have their own agendas to peddle, like trying to flush out other clubs etc.
It is quite easy to plant rumours or information into the wider web to create a narrative, the proof of the level of ambition will be when the window closes.

Good article.
I don't really get the criticism of Levy on here.
Spurs have spent about half a billion in the last five years and yet if you look on 606 you'd think it was a tenner.
Problem with conte is he throws about 2-3 strops a season when things don't go his way, and even with the pros he brings, he rarely stays somewhere long.
He will be perfect to get spurs into top 4 whilst he's there bit I think a domestic cup should be the target. Content doesn't have much pedigree in Europe but he can build a good league side if backed with the $ he wants.
I can see conte laying the foundation before someone else takes spurs up a level. Just can't see conte anywhere long term cos he is so temperamental, and signs short contracts, whilst waiting for the next project.

Clueless. Utterly clueless.
Nobody is denying that Levy has made mistakes, especially on the recruitment set of things. He has admitted he took his eye off the ball.
The appointment of Paratici has been a game changer in my opinion and he has a lot more power when it comes to decisions on player recruitment than anyone has had before him.
He has in my opinion changed the dynamics in terms of the type of player Spurs should be looking at.
No more obscure players from Ligue 1, pulling bargains out of Seri A, a league both he and Conte know inside out. Whilst Romero was not his signing, I think signing Kulu & Bentancur has shown Levy that we can attract top class players.
My understanding is that Paratici & Conte get funds approval from the Board, whenever the source a particular player. They will also have the funds recovered by selling off unwanted players, which if managed properly means there should be a decent amount to play for above and beyond the £150m indicated recently by Levy.
So Winks is valued at £20m with several clubs like Seville, Newcastle etc interested in him. Real Sociadad are interest in taking Gil on loan after his stint at Valencia.
Ajax want Bergwyn which could be another 25-30m.
Reguilon could also be on way back to Madrid which frees up wages as do the others I have mentioned.
We have also got to be mindful of the regulations pertaining to home grown and non home grown players. To add to difficulties in those areas, the PL rules and Uefa’s differ, so someone is going to have to work out who is in what group and who misses out.
