Hard to make any kind of forecast about next season right now - the likes of United and Chelsea haven't even started on their signings yet. That said, I do think Spurs should have an exceptional chance of top four again and United currently have it all to do.
But people are forgetting just how bad United were last season - and much of that was due to effort, application and morale. While I don't think we'd make top four with no new signings, just getting tactics and motivation right would make us a far tougher prospect in any individual game than we were last season. Add three or four quality players and we could see quite a dramatic improvement over the course of the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said that a few times at the end of last season ….fitness was a huge issue for United ….unfit players do not play to their potential
Under Nuno we had the worse running stats in the league , moral was shot and the players looked ready for relegation
Conte walks in and the same players were gotten fitter , happier and then we were top of the running stats
Fit players play better ….and thats down to Sunday league stuff too
Hopefully for uniteds sake the players are happy with the new guy and once he gets them fitter the performance levels of players who were shocking at the end of the season will look twice the player
United do need work as everyone says but it’s hard to judge how much work until the players have had a few weeks / months under the new management
United do not have an entitlement to challenge for anything, like any team you new quality on the pitch, a quality manager, clear decisive and good decision making off the pitch and the right people in the right positions.
What i see at United is a squad that could, maybe on its day, gain top 4...but the lack of quality and lack of balance will only get you so far and usually catches up with you. Some of your off-field decision making is curious.
In quality terms there are issues at United throughout the team...and clearly some attitude problems. There is a lot to put right & while you will probably improve, others will have to stand still for you to get anywhere near them.

We’ve generally over performed in terms of results relative to performances because of the quality of the squad. It hasn’t taken anything special for us to be in, or thereabouts, for top four because there’s only two really consistent teams in the league.
We obviously need to improve our performances massively as it’s not sustainable year on year to keep playing like that. But it won’t need radical improvements to get into contention.
I’d say top 4 should be the minimum for United next season. Financially you probably need it less than the other sides but there has to be signs of progression on the field. Based on recent seasons and the quality of sides that have scraped in, you really don’t have to see that much improvement for it to happen.
United had top 4 in their hands and couldn't motivate themselves and "gave up trying".
That points to something a lot more than just lack of application & effort, its an awful attitude and you think you can rely on those players next season and Ten Hag will fix them.
What if ETH doesnt improve things dramatically & quickly....will they give up then?

Almost certainly, that squad is rotten and needs a proper clear out - they only just finished above a threadbare West Ham and their best player will soon be getting a bus pass
Imagine being bantered by a team that's won less than Wigan Athletic over the last 20 years.
No idea where Spurs fans get their balls from.
Looks like we’ve made an offer to Eriksen then (according to the Athletic). While we are also still focussing on the main target De Jong.
He will have offers from us, Spurs and likely Newcastle to consider from what all the ITK guys are saying.
We’ve been linked with Vitinha from Porto as well. He’s the player people think Neves is.
I like everything I’ve seen in Neves but just wish he were a bit quicker across the field.
I’m not panicking with De Jong, I think Barca are willing and in need to sell I’m, we are the preferred option for him if he has to leave and Ten Hag has successfully ‘seduced’ him, we will try to get the price down for a couple of weeks until pre season/training starts because until then it doesn’t make a difference.
Vitinha’s a proper play-a-maker, though. Not a long ball merchant like Neves.

I liked that Neves did some of the dirty work too, what is this Vitamin guy like in that aspect?
Happy to sign players I know nothing baker if they’re planned and ETH has given the nod on who will fit his way of playing.
I did think Liverpool were linked to him earlier in the window though, but never really seen him play.
I don’t know.
rosso and TRS will know.
I’ve got an irrational dislike for Neves.

Winning little does not preclude us from having a valid view on football.
In fact, Spurs have been in a real mess at times over the years - we know a shiiit show when we see one.

If United only sign 4 players as has been suggested then they can forget finishing in the top 4 next season.
Need at least 6 deals to work out to give themselves a punchers chance, that's how far off they are imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You seem to be vastly overestimating Spurs and even Chelsea... Yes, they have the most potential to pull away, but it's just potential, right now... Spurs stumbled over the line, in the end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs scored 31 goals in their first 24 Premier League games and have 21 in their last six.
Yeah Spurs stumbled over the line

For Ten Hag, it will be massive.

Top 4 does not mean a lot for me next season.

I would like to not be miserable as fck on the tram home after a game ever week, even when we'd managed to win by a goal it was still just a weird 'meh' feeling' and has been for years now.
