I'll bite re: strikers. I actually would like us to go for one more striker, of the Abrahams / Scamacca mould. Unlikely so the question is whether we keep Balogun to have three strikers (which potentially disproves your theory that our strikers will only number 2).
--------------------------------
My theory on strikers? I haven't posted here, so not sure what you mean.
However its quite simple. Jesus is no.1. And Eddie is his 'understudy'. The problem is that Eddie is very similar in style to Jesus and in my opinion it may hurt if teams sit deep where I think someone taller would help.
Which is why I wanted Gakpo as an addition who can offer something different. I doubt he would have an issue being a squad player at this point in his career. He can then play on the left at times backing ESR/Marti or in the middle when the situation requires it.
However there is no way you will be able to attract the likes of Osimhen or Tammy or even DCL to sit on the bench. And if Arteta has promised Jesus the no.9 role as has been rumoured then he is not going to move to the wing to accommodate a more prominent profile player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------Haha! So you find another diversion. We're talking strikers now? You're on your own there. This thread was about Gnabry!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How many times have we heard Wenger say that he cannot and will not guarantee playing time. So spare me this idea that that is an immovable clause in a contract. Unless you can show me in the majority of football contracts that this clause is standard.
------------------
a) those were different times.
b) and don't believe what wenger said publicly to what he actually did.
Which is why I pointed out what happened with Giroud/Laca.
And now Leno/Ramsdale.
I explained the Nketiah/Jesus situation above.
"Do you really think Giroud's departure was simply down to the arrival of Laca and some unconfirmed clause? Come on, even you have to realise that that's a stretch of Mr Fantastic proportions!"
What are you talking about? Wenger threatened to replace Giroud with Suarez and even Higuain. But it never happened and Giroud stayed! As soon as Wenger spent £48m on Lacazette, Giroud knew his days at Arsenal were coming to an end and got a contract offer in lower profile role bench at Chelsea.
Players always talk to the manager of the club they are moving to fully understand what roles they are being signed for. A player approaching 30 can be happy to sit on the bench and collect money. Not someone who is 26 and in the prime of his career like Gnabry!

So again we return to Raphinha. Is he this player of a lesser profile who will sit on the bench? Or is he a player of international level who has a clause in his contract that sets out minimum minutes to be played? Or was he considered the right player to come in and compete with and support Saka (among other forwards)?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I explained above that Raffy was always a luxury. And personally I didn't like the idea that he would block ESR/Marti. And he would do that. So there is no hiding it. It would have meant that ESR was developed in a different role, possibly in Odegaard/Vieira's position or more likely he would leave in the medium term. Similarly Marti would end up being the 3rd striker to Jesus/Eddie and I think he would have eventually left as well.
But Raffy is considered such a top player at the moment because of his unique style that obviously Edu/Arteta decided to take that risk. I wouldn't have.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
What alleged clause?
Do you mean my mention of bonuses tied to appearance clauses?
Most top players want to be assured whether they will be starting or not. I don't get your point. Or why the feck would they sign?
Why did Jesus sign for us, a non CL club when he had offers from 3 other clubs, 2 we know are in the CL as well?
It's actually painful breaking down your own words to you.
No you don't seem to understand what I have posted. Where did I say "Giroud's departure was simply down to the arrival of Laca and some unconfirmed clause? "
I said as soon as Wenger signed Laca, Giroud knew his time as starter was over at Arsenal.
Okay, "genius". It's as you say. You know it all and have it all worked out. We know nothing compared to you. You can't tell but I'm bowing down to your unassailable arguments.
I really don't know what you are on about.
I am NOT trying to compete with you! I am bending over backwards trying to understand your viewpoint.
I was trying to understand why you think Gnabry would come to Arsenal to be an understudy or even compete with a player like Saka who is already an England International and thought of as the next big thing in English football. So much so that Independent think tanks are already valuing Saka for huge sums of money.
And I explained very clearly why I thought Raphinha despite being an exceptional talent would hinder both Marti and ESR. But I am not Edu so I accept that his decision in that it was worth a try! And may still happen if Barca cannot get the deal over the line.

1. What is so difficult to understand about a player coming in to support / compete with / understudy Saka? Pepe is almost undoubtedly leaving which leaves a hole on the right and, currently one player to fill it (who will be returning late from summer and will have a big role in Dec in the world cup). His value isn't going to stop him from getting worn out so bringing that up is an obvious red herring / straw man. So what is sooooooooo mind boggling about this article or the subsequent points that you can't get it? For me, the fact that you can't isn't because the point is difficult, it's that you are being deliberately obtuse. Or, dare I say, you're just plain stupid.
2. You didn't explain any hindrance. You simply made the statement. I asked what the hindrance would be and you deflected... as you did with multiple points.

Because Gnabry will be sitting on the bench and NOT playing. Don't you get that? Its interesting you point to him replacing Pepe. How many times did Pepe start last season? Why do you think he wants to leave?
So you want to me believe that Gnabry, a starting International for Germany and playing for Bayern Munich in the Champions League will come to Arsenal to 'compete' with Saka.
And you call me stupid for not accepting that?
I promise you if Gnabry comes to Arsenal, Saka will move to Man City before he signs an extension to his contract.
Do you want me to explain 'hindrance'? Young Players need to play football to develop. Or why do you think they go out on loan. Both ESR and Martinelli are so good that they are already producing goals and assists for Arsenal. Which is Arteta did not send them out on loan. How will they develop if they are sitting on the bench?

So, again, why did we go in for Raphinha? But since you could arguably counter that by saying we didn't get him, let me ask this: with Saliba coming in, who's going to be hindered? Better yet, who's leaving? Because, you know, you can't have more than one established player per position, right?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I explained above why I think we are after Raphinha and may still get him.
But to do it again.
Raphinha in my opinion, and obviously Barca/Chelsea as well is a very unique player. He plays in the role that Iniesta used to do for Barca. There are very few players in the world who can do that wide/central/creative roles.
But I believe that it would eventually force Martinelli or ESR out. I said that above. Maybe (and I am speculating) that Arteta thinks ESR can play deeper in Odegaards or Vieira's position. And maybe he believes that Marti will be the 3rd striker to Jesus and Eddie. I don't know!
If Saliba develops because I do not think he will be a starter this season, Gabriel will be the one who leaves next season. Arteta's system requires the CBs to be comfortable coming into the midfield and Saliba is better at it than Gabriel. But we do not know whether Saliba will be able to handle the physical side of the prem. Why do you think Gabriel is already being linked with Juve?

You tied in Giroud leaving to your comment about clauses. Maybe it wasn't your intention but that's what you did. So above, you've actually validated my response (me saying it wasn't simply about that alleged clause). Nothing more to say so thank you for confirming what I said.
