It must be something to do with being a West Ham fan.

I read on the athletic that Maguire can play on the right but his role changes from being progressive with the ball to making more long balls which sounds fine to me.

I know EtH is recognised for tactical fluidity, but as far as I know, isn't he a fairly staunch 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 guy?

I'm not aware that he's ever really used a 3 at the back system and we've seen strictly 4-2-3-1 so far in pre-season, too. The team you posted looks good though!

What’s funny about this is that Ten Hag appears to be saying to Maguire: “With a new partner, you’ll have a new role on the right so I’m getting you ready for that.” To Lindelof he’s kind of saying: “I’m getting you ready for - well, just get over there to the left CB position.”

Maguire and Martinez will most likely be our starting cb’s. I don’t think it’ll just be because of his fitness either, Maguire is a better ball player than Varane and that’s important for Ten Hag.
