That’s a significant part of the debt wiped out now so this is a perfect deal and perfect time to cash in.
+++
I don’t even think there was a substantial debt, if any. There were trading losses of course, all as forecasted by the club, but these were then covered by directors and converted to shares
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Might just be enough to pay close bros, and then parks of Hamilton
Maybe a bit towards whatever is owed to SD
A quite ridiculous amount of money for big Calvin
But football is kind of stupid at times
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Diallo for £37m is ridiculous, as is Grealish for £100m. Those and many more make the Bassey deal look pretty tame.
The €27m package for Bassey is top dollar so fair play to the club if it goes through.
He has been an utter phenomenon for the last 6 months and clearly has all the attributes to be playing at a very high level. Up to him to kick in now.
And it’s up to the club to invest the money wisely.
If the Bassey deal does go through it would be pretty embarrassing for some of the folks on here who continually tell us with clearly unjustified confidence that our players are bang average and nobody wants them.
It was only a few weeks ago I remember discussing Rangers player trading model the the board have spoken openly about for the past couple of years on here. The very idea that we were possibly entering into a very fruitful player trading phase was basically dismissed outright with the usual haughty guffaws.
In 12 months we will have sold 3 players Bassey, Patterson and Aribo for deals which could ultimately net £50m quid. Total outlay was £500-600k.
Phenomenal work from the club over the past 3-5 years to get us to where we are now. Profile raised through the roof with the Europa run, assets being retained, assets being cashed in on to turn round the financials.
But don’t forget - Rangers bad no matter what 😉😂
The deal that puts us back on a sure footing financially. Made some very healthy gains from picking up players for little developing and moving them on. Something we need to continue.
Great business for a guy who had an exceptional 6 months and was picked up for a pittance.
Gonna have to get a LB and potentially a CB. Maybe free up funds to tie up Kent and Morelos, still can’t afford to lose them next summer for nothing so they will need sold and replaced this summer if the contracts won’t get signed.
As long as the face painter doesn’t see a penny of it

Remember we were also told that there was no way an EPL team would take on Gerard as well?
And we were repeatedly told that Kings strategy of Over Investment was a lot of nonsense and no business in the world over invests and plans for short term losses whilst doing so?
And that we owed HMRC £4.8 in unpaid PAYE tax as there was a £4.8m tax deferment in our accounts 😂😂
It constantly amazes me the lengths that some will go to paint rangers in a bad light, they are even prepared to make themselves look extremely stupid in order to do so
It is quite staggering actually

What amuses me are the ones who like to present themselves as experts on all things football, all things financial and well all things in general really just because they might have made a few quid in life.
I have met many many wealthy idiots in my time. I live in Bearsden and the place is fookin full of them 😂
At the end of the day these folks are just narrow minded donuts who can’t see past their hatred of rangers.
We have been heading in the right direction for a good few years. This phase of doing business was clearly stead publicly around 3 years ago.
The Europa run and in fact the last few seasons Europa runs have all helped to get us where we are. Remember- those European runs that supposedly didn’t matter because we hadn’t won the League cup for a few years?
I am not expecting Celtic fans on here to suddenly start taking a balanced view. But IF the Bassey deal goes through and we get £20m+ for a guy who had a good 6 month run in the team then let’s see if credit can be given for the bigger picture work that’s been done over 3-5 years to get to this point.
Let’s be honest - some amazing amount of pash gets spouted about Rangers by folk who seem pretty convincing. And I actually get the impression some folks all but hang on their every word on here.
But if Rangers were to complete a third deal in 12 months that brought in up to £50m for players we spent less than £600k on - surely even the usual suspects would find it hard to put the well worn negative spin on it?

There is that, and I also think a lot of posters were punch drunk by it all and really couldn’t be bothered to respond to most of it as they new they would just get a belittling and condescending tirade in response so they thought it best just to let them spout their schite and say nothing
It was only yesterday we were being informed that we received “nothing in fees” for Aribo only a couple of days after selling him in a £10m deal! And then the constant nonsense about no club being interested in Morelos despite board members of interested clubs going public on the bids they had submitted for him!
The £4.8m tax deferment is a personal favourite of mine though, the amount of dafties that were caught out with that after it appeared on a celtic fans blog was unbelievable 😂
Do some Rangers fans not describe “the player trading model” the same way Americans describe democracy? As if it’s some unique thing they invented that others don’t understand?
The ideal model is surely to recruit at low cost. Win stuff. Sell big. Reinvest with quality.
Whilst the Bassey numbers ARE good business (if true) - you are just a trophy less season and a Bollingoli equivalent from it being meaningless.

It is an excellent sale anything north of £15m but it seems there's a fair bit of pent up bear bravado on here that they are closing the gap despite last season so enjoy.

You would need to ask all rangers fans that question - see if you can identify’ some’. Although a lot of the time on here Juan Guy is enough to present a view held by a majority of Rangers fans.
On here i would say the player trading model is accepted to be established and rangers fans often reference Celtic as an obviously relevant example of what can be achieved if you do it right.
Do whilst you might be able to find Juan Guy claiming it’s a Rangers invention you are probably more likely to find many more who will accept it’s nothing new in general but it is a new and essential element to Rangers as we try to re-establish the club on a sound financial footing as we look to achieve sustained success domestically and in Europe

Taking this as being about sides and not finances then no much of a gap given 4 points, won the Scottish cup and got to the Europa cup final.
Celtic went on a great run after a poor start, but the points we dropped were sloppy mistakes, and in games we should’ve won largely.
Yes, unfortunately, it's a well known hvn dominated area so no surprise.

And just to be clear - are you suggesting that in general ‘Hvns’ are rich idiots?
That’s a new and slightly bizarre generalisation to make about Rangers fans 😂😂
I am assuming by Hvns you mean Rangers fans btw - correct me if I’m wrong.
Financially a fantastic deal for Rangers. One that could in no way be ignored.
The cash is cashflow in this next season and absolutely covers the shortfall oft quoted and room to spare. It’s got nothing to do with past losses which are exactly that. The past.
The one player to me that was what Rangers were about and as a Celtic supporter, I’m glad he’s gone.
fwiw
As others have said, this would be a justified but still fantastic and slightly shocking fee for Bassey given just how much he developed through the end of last season. If you'd suggested at the start of last season we'd get even £10m for him everyone would have thought you were on the wind up.
This does look like leaving us very weak at LB though as Borna is a bit prone to injuries and transforming into a daffodil on occasion. Hopefully targets are already in place and a sensible proportion of the money is reinvested.
As for the "player trading model", it's nothing but an admission that we are now what would one have been mockingly described as a selling club. Unfortunately all but about half a dozen clubs in the world are now selling clubs, so it's good to see us finally getting decent value for our players. No doubt at all that our European runs have contributed towards that.

All of our clubs are “selling” clubs. It’s the variable between purchase/development cost v sale value, with the time element thrown in.
The bit to get is maintain it and not do what we did for years, which is to waste money on projects at a model cost. Sometimes you have to pay for that individual who is a game changer.

First rumour up is we are in for that Ben Davies boy that gave Celtic a KB to join Liverpool. Think he’s a left sided cb that cover lb.
Think he was potentially world class when Celtic were begging him to sign but I’m pretty sure he would be pash now if we got him 😂

Listen you got it wrong. I’m not having a snidely dig at you.
And the suggestion of it isn’t appreciated. I will be direct if you want - you are coming across as a bit of d11ck thinking this is about you.
I know loads of folk from bearsden - I went to school here. Some are cool, some are meh and there’s a fair chunk of over privileged tools who think they know everything about the world because they have a few quid.
I will repeat - I DONT KNOW YOU and I’ll be honest it can’t really come as a surprise that I have no real interest in getting to know you personally.
You might be an ok guy but you are currently not coming across as one to me.
You seem a bit thirsty and for this to be some sort of back handed compliment to you.
I'd really started to enjoy him as a Rangers player. But it's a deal we probably need to do. He could easily be a top player one day. Getting a hefty amount though is necessary

I have met many many wealthy idiots in my time. I live in Bearsden and the place is fookin full of them
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, unfortunately, it's a well known hvn dominated area so no surprise.
If it is meant as a dig at me just come out and address me direct it and don't be a snidey bastirt about it.
It is an excellent sale anything north of £15m but it seems there's a fair bit of pent up bear bravado on here that they are closing the gap despite last season so enjoy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No it’s not a dig at you.
It’s a dig at the wealthy idiots I know in bearsden.
I don’t know you. Are you wealthy?
Wait - scratch that lady question - I don’t care 😂👍

Taking this as being about sides and not finances then no much of a gap given 4 points, won the Scottish cup and got to the Europa cup final.
Celtic went on a great run after a poor start, but the points we dropped were sloppy mistakes, and in games we should’ve won largely.

No, I'm suggesting you were making a snidey dig at me. Which I can handle, btw but would rather it was direct and specific if you want to go down that road.
