The reason people bring up 1976 is because the hot weather wasn’t just a few days, it went on for ages causing crops to fail, reservoirs to dry up, roads to crack amongst many other problems
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is part of the reason why it’s ridiculous when people say things like: ‘We just called it summer then! We went out and enjoyed it and there was no emergency!’

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's also the differentiation between weather and climate.

Not sure why anyone would want to work from home in the UK, because as the comments above say, UK homes don't typically have air con built in, theyre built for storing heat. My house is a sauna on days like this

As I said on another thread, we’ve had 4 biblical floods in the past 18 months in Sydney. Add to that the insane bushfires from early 2020 and it’s clear the climate is facked. Unfortunately these disinformation campaigns are being funded by the likes of the Koch brothers etc who see their bottom line as something more important than a future they won’t be part of as they’ll be long dead.

There's an argument for it and against it. Do I want to get up 90 mins earlier to spend over an hour on public transport, for the sake of being more comfortable at work? Then have to come home on the same tube at the end of it???

Or do I just write the day off, take all meetings with the camera off so I can sit in just a pair of shorts and die slowly, but at least not have to leave the house. Tough call.

You can end up adding a good 60 mins or so just on the actual door to door time depending on loads of factors

I've been swimming already. When I've finished work, I'm going to have a few beers and make fun of the local culture.

I exaggerated slightly (a lot), it's like a 10 min walk to the station, then 30 mins on the tube, then 5 mins the other side. So not quite that bad. 30 mins on the tube in this weather is pure torture though.

It would only cost me like 30 quid to get there in a taxi if it got really bad

Some people are planning to go to a pub , take off their tops, wear sun hats, stand in a beer garden drinking and yell abuse at passers by

It's weird that people seem to have forgotten about the long hot summer of 2018. Doesn't get a look in compared to 1976.

That was magnificent. I could be wrong but I think, though the heatwave lasted a while, it wasn't quite like today or yesterday for temperatures? There were fires on the moors near Manchester though. I remember that.
