Beatles fans are very sensitive, aren't they. Typical screaming, can't take criticism of their beloved, girl fanbase you associate with boybands really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As I’ve said above, I’m not really a Beatles fan - I’ve got no particular loyalty to them. But saying 1D are better (I know you’ve not quite said that) is like saying Ibiza is ‘better’ than Rome.

I’m going to throw Gary Numan in

Got panned by “real musicians” when he first came in the scene, some of his early stuff was more than decent, built up a cult following but was never a music press favourite, in recent years anyone who’s anyone in the music business can’t speak highly enough of him and lots of bands are falling over themselves to collaborate with him

posted on 27/7/22

the only hint of whether I like them or not or any semblence of if I think they are a good band I have said is that they were prob the greatest boy band of all time.

He said a 1D song was better than a range of Beatles songs. As I said, he stopped short of saying they were a better band but I wonder if he was heading there.

Let's just move on, yea? The Beatles were the 60s equivalent to One direction. ok? done.

Back to the OP, which was actually a cool topic with some good replies.

na people responded to my opinion. I then replied to those who in turn asked me things.

but I think we now know the band thats most divisive .... as soon as one comment passed (not even a compliment or derogatory one) then the furore behind it is quite clear

I didn't say they were better. I said one of their songs was better than a large number of Beatles biggest hits. I don't particularly like the 1D song, but it is far less cringey and basic than the Beatles songs I mentioned.

Someone did earlier, but mainly focused on their early work.

Radiohead are right up there in the bracket of genius, for me at least.

Even their more recent work is really good, which is rare for any band.

I remember when Kid A was released and a fair few people thought they’d lost it because it was a pretty big departure from what had gone before, along with In Rainbows it’s my favourite album of theirs

I strongly dislike Radiohead .... there genre and style of music do absolutely nothing for me , it almost annoys me!

that doesnt mean that I think they are rotten or $hit. Just not for me.

It is quite clear you know Hip Hop and did not get your info from Google like our Psychologist Major
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You’re complimenting a guy who wrote Eminem off as ‘production’ which is almost as laughable as saying the Beatles were a boyband
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Robb, you’re misinterpreting what I’ve said. The first “top five” being not production related was not a slight at Eminem - in fact, it was a completely separate point to that about Eminem (hence the new paragraph); it is just a distinction I feel is needed to be made when discussing hip hop.

For example, Kanye is a wonderful artist, but I could never bring myself to say he’s a wonderful rapper; his lyrics just aren’t on the same planet as some of the aforementioned.

With respect to Eminem, the last album I listened to was Music to be Murdered by (2020). From a quick search of Spotify, I believe that’s his most recent? I thought it was crap.

I even listened to that song by Royce da 5’9” named Caterpillar, of which everybody was raving, and found the issue to be the same: the cringeworthy vocals that sound like a false imitation of his 90s/early 00’s self are so unyielding that it’s impossible to concentrate on the technical prowess (for me, anyway).

That Trump cipher is the epitome of everything that’s gone wrong with him recently, in my opinion. Shame, as he used to be my favourite hip hop artist by a mile.

@Champers, you are of course correct and Illmatic should be on the top five list; can’t believe I forgot it!!

Some of the greatest bands of all time have been influenced by songs like those.

One of this sites favorites, Nirvana, being just one.
