If you want a don't know anything about their futures view then there's a case for Maradona but if you've got the hindsight info then you won't touch him with a bargepole.
Pele had a long and distinguished career but shone for us in Europe only in world cups.
Maradona and best were with respect flawed geniuses.
---------
I'll throw Garrincha into the conversation here. Pele is always mentioned as the greatest, but many of the older Brazilians, including some of their international team mates, felt that Garrincha was the better player. Pele spoke very highly of him and said that he could do things with the ball that no other player could.
Because I never said anything about how much talent they had, I just said what they excelled at with their talent suits different game states.
…
This is meaningless drivel. You had different game states in other eras.

Just say you don’t understand stuff and move on. You’re wasting everyone’s time trying to comprehend what people are saying and then misconstruing everything.
Happy to admit that I am not qualified to make a decision on it. Watched every game Messi played from 2007 to around 2019, but never saw Maradona play. I imagine there are a few who haven't watched much of either as well, on a regular basis.

This is easy to answer: Maradona!!!
Maradona won serie A with an average Napoli side twice ….
It would be like Messi winning La Liga with Valencia.
Maradona single handedly won the World Cup with a very average Argentina.
Messi has never done it on the world stage…
He’s only played in an out of this world Barcelona team.
Maradona is the greatest I’ve ever seen!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Barcelona finished 2nd in the league in '81/82, shelled out a record transfer fee on Maradona and failed to finish in the top 3 in both seasons he was there. Immediately Maradona left, they won the league. People make it out like if Maradona had just played in the biggest teams, he'd be winning golden boots and golden balls and winning all the league titles every year. It's just nonsense conjecturing.
Mahrez won the league with Leicester City. Best player of all time. Okay, maybe 2nd behind Theodoros Zagorakis who won Euro 2004 for Greece single-handed.
Just say you don’t understand stuff and move on.
….
Your self awareness is staggering. You are just full of waffle.
No one else is saying the utter kak you are.
Ok sheriff, i bow to your superior knowledge. Just remember being wowed by Maradona more! Both great players.
Wish there were some Argentines on the site, be interesting to hear their thoughts, although I reckon I know which way about 95% of them would go

Yep he stepped up when Pele got injured and won Brazil the world cup. He lived an interesting life too. 3 interesting facts about him:
1. His left leg was 6cm shorter than his right.
2. He lost his virginity to a goat.
3. When Brazil won the wc in 58 he couldn't understand why all his team mates were celebrating after the final. He though that they had to play everyone twice.
The answer is Messi ffs. How the feck can some people not see that.

Will echo what billy said. I have seen no greater player than Maradona. Messi is great but it was the sheer unpredictability of Maradona that was magic and that centre of gravity. Messi has the stats but I remember the joy of watching the craft and guile of Maradona, even though he wasn’t that likeable. He could change the course of a match in the blink of an eye but you could say the same about both. Hats off to both.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not quite sure what craft, guile and unpredictability Maradona has that Messi doesn't. In my opinion, what works against Messi is the media saturation. We got to see him doing his stuff every weeknight on Sky that we grew somewhat numb to the brilliance of regularly skewering 2 or 3 defenders and burying one in the corner, or cutting inside onto his left foot and delivering a brilliant through ball.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. It's almost as if his stats are working against him in this argument. I don't know if people didn't watch much of him at his peak and just assume he scored 50+ tap-ins every season. The guy would do amazing things every game - dribble past half the team, play incredible passes, take amazing free kicks, and generally have the crowd off their seats for most of the game. Oh and he'd also score a hat trick while doing it.
This idea that "Messi may have the stats but Maradona was more creative/entertaining/exciting" is just way off. Prime Messi could do everything Maradona could with a football, and score millions of goals as well.
