Speaking of music popular with the gay community that would translate well to the medium of Welsh male voice choir (which ought to be the subject of its own thread, on reflection), I've long thought that about 'Don't leave me this way' by Jimmy Somerville and the Communards. In particular the wordless 'Daaaaaa - da-Da da-Da da-Da-da-da' melody that precedes the verse.

Actually Garbage’s self titled album is king. Not a single weak song on it

Orbital’s brilliant brown album was released in 90’s too. Not Brit pop, but class. Leftfields leftism another cracker.

There were a handful of good bands during the era, the rest were absolute waank. Always have a soft spot for Elastica even if they did rip of Wire.

I think Cast deserve a mention too. Top band for the 90’s

I'll suggest it to my mate who's still in the choir. They get to go on paid gigs to the likes of Jamaica sometimes so perhaps I was a bit foolish to not stay for long!

Do people class Steroephonics as brit pop or were they a bit late?

Loved OCS, one of my fave bands.

OCS > Blur > Oasis

I think they’re the era before Britpop for me.

First two gigs I saw were Echobelly and then Black Grape.

A lot of britpop hasn’t aged particularly well though, there was an awful lot of rubbish. John Harris’s The Last Party is well worth a read for anyone who was really into it.

2nd coming was released during britpop. Like the roses but are a bit overated on the first album and underated on second.,

I don’t know what’s britpop tbh so I cannot make a list

Is Travis britpop? They had that song Sing…. Not even sure if I liked it. What about The Thrills? Was that too late? Don’t Steal Our Sun and Big Sur were great Songs.

That’s kinda why I’m confused what counts. Maybe just a wide net of being British and popish

seems to be any band that had a guitar in the 90's

For eg Skunkanansie and Placebo were 100% not britpop bands

Some great stuff in very early 90’s before britpop came along and everyone was just copying each others look & sound
