I don't think we will really see the true benefit of ETH until the second season tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The club need to hold their nerve too if things start badly

Our fixtures aren't kind... We could well be bottom half by the end of October

We need to give him time
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The season would have to be a total disaster for him to be sacked in year one. I don't think finishing 5th or 6th again would see him sacked as I think the club realises just how far away we are this time.

If we can come 6th last season without a proper manager for most of it then surely that should give us a bit of optimism. The trouble is our main rivals for top 4 all look much stronger on paper than last time which is why I'm not too hopeful.

I’ve put three stars but that really is as optimistic as I can be. Frankly I think we’re in a bit of a mess as not nearly enough has been done in the right areas (so far) during the window. Fourth looks unlikely but I don’t think we’ll be worse, or finish lower, than last season.

However, I put three stars for Erik and because I do believe we can have a decent run - hopefully better - in the Europa.

I think I still hate most of the squad for last season

I've every faith in ETH but expect a really bumpy ride up until the Fulham away, and we'll kick on from there and have a decent/good second half of the season

We don't really know where we are tbh... We've seen signs of a style of play and promise, but we also know half the squad lack either quality or a backbone

It's a coin toss between starting well on Sunday or ETH getting a wake up call

Brighton will be very tough. They are incredibly well drilled and used to Potter unlike us with a new coach.

Bissouma and Cucharella are big losses for them though.

Brighton used to be a 3rd round FA Cup tie now we are seriously worried about then turning us over in the prem

As it stands if we don’t buy anymore then minimum for me is top 6 and at least the semis of the Europa

If we get FDJ and Ziyech then minimum for me should be winning the Europa. League position fairly irrelevant if we do

I think this season will be one of those weird seasons where there will be a fair few shocks/surprises. Especially with the WC disrupting the season. Liverpool might even do a Leicester, again.

We’ll still finish 6th though.

Are there any optimists here?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, ffs! Giddy as feck, and excited about what’s going to be on offer.

Fack the league position, it’s all about Haagbaal!

Seems like I'm the lone 5

If we can get rid of Ronaldo, even without any additional signings I think we can have a very solid season, as long as the players and fans by into what the new manager is trying to do.

I'm pretty optimistic and will be even more so when the Ronaldo cloud has past...

I put £25 each way on United. Maximum back is £800 and odd.

I also bet the same on Forest, so I wouldn’t take me too seriously, where football betting is concerned, at least.

I'm optimistic that will play good football, but without 2 or 3 more signings we're going to be frustrating to watch as we fail to take chances and concede silly goals.

I just don’t think Wesley De Jong is going to happen. There really should be/should have been alternatives.

Arsenal looked decent yesterday, Don't see us overtaking them so most likely 6-8th area again with current squad but with more coherent football than last year. Does feel like we are turning into a upper mid table club slowly.

its frustrating we haven't made more signings but i prefer the club take time to get in the right players. We cant risk signing more AWB's, Maguires etc..

We’ll find out one way or another as Barca now can’t register their players so he surely has to go. Us or Chelsea. Hopefully this week

I think there probably are tbh. We'll likely find out in due course as FDJ is not looking promising

We will indeed. 13th is La Liga deadline for registering players according to Sky last week.

It will be very interesting to see who they don’t register.

Look on the bright side. Our rivals Wolves, Leicester, Villa, Everton and Brentford all dropped points and even West Ham are currently losing. Newcastle admittedly could be a problem.
