Souness...."It's a man's game"

The outrage over his comment will no doubt go over the top considering the context of his words and the fact he was comparing it to the mens game before refs started being more lenient, not to the womens game.

Think he's a bit of a caaant though so not that bothered.

Hopefully it plays on his mind and trips him up next time someones getting hammered and he says 'it's like men against women out there' instead of 'men against boys'

He was talking about mens football, and saying he thinks it is getting away from the screaming & diving theatre it has turned into, back into more of a man’s game.
Nothing wrong with what he said in that context

Unless the screaming and diving theatre is likened to the players not being men, and being more like a bunch of women? In which case, the womens game is probably less like that than the mens game

Women have never played in the mens prof competitions and vice versa so why can't they both just stick to the type of football they understand?

I'm OK with female presenters but I don't like the way women's commentators and pundits have become such a part of the men's game and I don't see why the tv companies feel the need to have them on when women's football provides these opportunities.

Fair play to the ladies for winning the Euros, I tried to watch some but it wasn't for me but I'm sure there are plenty of women out there who feel that theirs is the superior product and thats fine.

Best thing is not to get in each others way and let everybody get on with their own version of the game

I follow a women's football page on FB and they are not a happy bunch!

IMO it was fine in the context. That said, he will no doubt say 'adults game' next time.

The irony with all this "mens game" is the reality that it's full of: diving, faking injury, time wasting, general shiiiit housery, cheating and of course the handbags yet the women's game rarely is.

The men's game

I bet he doesn't say mans game anymore. I personally don't care but it's the way of the world!

so just for clarification is it OK to say the following?

Big girls blouse
Handbags
Man up
Man United
Man City

Ermmm, I'm sure there are many others that the easily or ready to be easily offended can find fault with but really is this what it has come to?...
Get a life!... oops is that OK???

Souness had to quickly qualify it otherwise he’d have got cancelled

posted on 15/8/22

Was he purposefully misinterpreted? I understood it to mean the men Vs boys reference, not that women can't play it..

Is it okay to call women CB's 'beasts' if they're big compared to their teammates like people do in the mens game?

Also are you telling me that in Women's football all the professional female players do not say "Man on"?

Bethany England has a lot to answer for. What she said yesterday was really inflammatory and is likely to drag Souness through the prolific cancellation machine. It's an absolute joke. If you want support for your cause on equality, you don't do it by picking on a turn of phrase like that. That's all it was. He was talking about the game needing to lose the softness. It's a clumsy phrase but it's a well understood one. Everyone knows that this had nothing to do with gender.

All it's done to me is hate the lionesses more. If you're looking for support, Bethany England, you've just lost one. Pathetic.

Her Tweet;

"It's a mans game"
"Men at it"

Get in the bin what a disgraceful thing to say after the summer this country has just seen.

Oh, and I've read on Twitter that Karen Carney looked uncomfortable when he said it. Absolute nonsense. I was looking at her to see what her reaction was (as I kind of pre-empted this kind of overreaction) and she barely flinched.

Honestly, that mob on Twitter can just eff off. It's so toxic. It's awash with virtue-signalling. These people don't care about right from wrong. They just want to be the first on the moral highground.

Just go and get laid you uptight bunch of twonks. Feck's sake. Does my head in.

Err.....it IS a man's game he was commenting on ?

Women were not playing, and maybe if the snowflakes don't like "men's talk" about a game that was being played between men, then stop putting women in front of the camera to tick a PC box.

The women's game is apparently thriving, so there are plenty of opportunities for women on tv to progress their careers anyway.

Never heard such a stupid, touchy argument. If Souness saying "this was a man's game" upsets you, then you need to get a thicker skin.

Whilst we are on the subject of easily upset, then I don't want to hear that White will break Rooney's England record, or Gabby telling us a man wouldn't try that back heel, a goal that someone like Messi frankly wouldn't get out of bed for.

I and the female coach I work with always say man on. The girls don't even realise

I have no problem with women`s football but have little interest in it, other than to take a look at some of the lovelies who play it.

I also don`t see the need to have female commentators and pundits shoved down our throats on men`s football, why can`t they leave them to the ladies game.

Give the ladies their own dedicated sports channel for games and news, so I can avoid what I don`t need or particularly want to see. I follow men`s football so don`t want women`s football mixed in with it.
