Err.....it IS a man's game he was commenting on ?
Women were not playing, and maybe if the snowflakes don't like "men's talk" about a game that was being played between men, then stop putting women in front of the camera to tick a PC box.
The women's game is apparently thriving, so there are plenty of opportunities for women on tv to progress their careers anyway.
Never heard such a stupid, touchy argument. If Souness saying "this was a man's game" upsets you, then you need to get a thicker skin.
Whilst we are on the subject of easily upset, then I don't want to hear that White will break Rooney's England record, or Gabby telling us a man wouldn't try that back heel, a goal that someone like Messi frankly wouldn't get out of bed for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's interesting you use the term snowflakes. The only people I can see having an absolute meltdown on this is some of the "men" on here. If the women's game bothers you all so much, just ignore it. The insecurity is hilarious.
Anybody who gets upset about his comment deserves a good slap in the face. Nothing more that needs to be said.
But it was a man’s game ?

Don't lump us all in on that one. I have no issue with the women's game itself. Where I do take issue is when current and former women's footballers chastising Souness for saying what he said. It's dangerous and inflammatory and absolutely and categorically without justification. He wasn't talking about gender. It was a turn of phrase about the brutality of the sport in general. If people are too thick to understand the difference then god help us all. Morons.

I think this is where some of the criticism is stemming from. Simple stupidity. Stupidly mistaking what he said to be a sign of affection for one gender's game over another, when it was an affection for a brand of football entertainment long since gone in the relevant gender's game, in their opinion.
Some footballers just aren't very bright but we knew this already.
It is very easy for the sensitive to take his comments out of context. He is not saying that the game is exclusively for men, but using a turn of phrase that is recognised as meaning that it should be a game for tough physical players....in the context of talking about the mens match that just happened, and as a man himself who played at the elite level, he is perfectly justified IMO to use that phrase, in the way that was intended.
If he had sat there and watched a womens game and criticised its physically, calling it " a mans game" then fair play, its derogatory. But instead people find a meaning that was clearly not intended from a man talking about a mens game of football.
When i consider these sorts of issues, i always turn it around to see how it appears in the opposite situation. So if we had just watched a physical WSL match and a female pundit said "you have to be a physically tough women to compete at this level" does that offend every male out there, is it intended to offend the male game, is the male game even relevant to this comment.....answer is no in every case.
What Souness said was about the game he had just watched and IMO he is entitled to make gender specific comments without the meaning being picked up as being negative towards the female game.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. I'd say his comments were clumsy at worst. Nothing more than a comment on a love for dirty football (non-gender specific) using an, admittedly, out-dated phrase. It wasn't wise but equally it wasn't offensive. Dave Jones didn't help by lighting the fire in response by saying "it's a woman's game too". He misunderstood just as others have and it just helps to legitimise the criticisms we're seeing on social media.
The issue really is with the phrase "It's a man's game". It's open-ended and nuanced and therefore open to criticism whether it's justified or not. It's no different to "man up" as a criticism of weakness. All the while it exists and is widely used, it can't be used as a weapon to bash someone with, particularly when the context has no foundation in gender difference.

Also are you telling me that in Women's football all the professional female players do not say "Man on"?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I and the female coach I work with always say man on. The girls don't even realise
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly if this is deemed acceptable language then so should a remark about the men's professional football game being a man's game and therefore all the women's professional football games are a woman's game.

You're all blowing it out of proportion and making it a thing when it simply wasn't in the first place. The comments about it on here just prove why some women, or men, are finding an issue with it. If people can't see that, then they are also morons. Non of this should be a big deal but if misogyny continues (and don't try to pretend it isn't) then this wont go away and you'll continue to have Women's football "rammed down your throat" until everyone gets it.
It's quite simple. Just ignore it if bothers you, No one is trying to change men's football. There's better stuff to talk about, like how rubbish United are. Or who would win in a fight - Conte or Tuchel? (obviously Conte)

Obviously it is simply a turn of phrase and football fans understand what it means. It does not imply anything about women's football.
However there are people who make a living by being offended and making a fuss about their supposedly hurt feelings. They know that the cowards at Sky and the BBC will support them. Better still if they can get a white male sacked and replaced with a box ticker.

Morons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think this is where some of the criticism is stemming from.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
