Wolves win 3-2 on penalties

I think it would be wise to keep pretty much the same team, bar maybe one or two. Gelling this side with the new system and players will be paramount to our (hopeful) success this season and no game, no matter who it is, will be easy.

My guess at the starting 11 would be something like this:

Sarkic
Semedo
Boly
Toti
Ait-Nouri
Cundle
Nunes
Dendoncker
Traore
Guedes
Hwang

Think I would try the following:

Sa (or maybe Sarkic)
Semedo
Collins
Kilman
Jonny
Moutinho
Cundle
Nunes
Hwang
Guedes
Traore

Jimenez off the bench for a bit more game time.

Kilman captain

No other option but to give the fringe players some minutes. If not in this match, then when exactly will they get their chance?

Eleven changes please Bruno.

I think the probability is a much changed team and there’s a few if the squad that could do with some game time. I’d go with

Sarkic
Semedo, Mosquera, Toti, Bueno
Cundle, Dendoncker, Moutinho
Traore, Jimenez, Hwang

With a bench of Portuguese superstars

I agree with DJ.

Quite ridiculous to suggest keeping pretty much the same team. ALL the squad will need to gel with the new system if we are going to have a (hopefully) successful season. 👍

I honestly wouldn't change it too much given we need to start finding some cohesion.

Sarkic for sure. Jimenez needs minutes i would say. Semedo of course. Not sure it wise to play Mosq and Toti but if not then when do they get any minutes. Probably wouldn't risk the engine room other than maybe giving Moutinho some minutes.

Umm, it soon added up

Dont know if Jimenez if fit enough for an hour yet but if so I'd go, for starters:

Sarkic
Semedo Boly Toti Bueno
Ronan Moutinho Cundle
Traore Jimenez Hwang

That should be enough to get us past Preston, but probably wont.

Maybe should save this for the next thread but as this isnt mol mix, I think Gem will allow

I had the Newcastle - City game on the radio yesterday on the drive back from Lincolnshire and was aghast again at the media love-in with Newcastle. All the build up was about them, 30 minute interview with Shearer, all the bollacks about it meaning more to their fans, the owners get what its all about, Ashley never did, wor flags and all the other sh!tty cliches that get associated with "the mags". Commentator sounded sounded apologetic when the City goals went in ecstatic when Newcastle scored.

I've got nothing against the fans really, I worked with loads in a previous job and they were all sound, but the media and particularly BBC's obsession with them I just dont understand.

Dont think the West Ham - Brighton game got a mention. Hope we absolutely stuff them on Sunday but cant see it somehow.

Absolutely nothing wrong with your post Oldgold. The Wolve v Newcastle thread will be up tomorrow but can see why you needed to get that off your chest

That adoration flows over to Sky, bigging up the Mags
Even before they were rolling in cash.

They haven’t won anything in modern times but somehow are the media’s love child’s.

Yeah I think the media feel there’s some kind of street cred about being onside with the Newcastle fans. It was a surprising game though. They made City look vulnerable at times

Even more surprising was the Chelsea game where they were steamrollered by Leeds. Saw some stat on sky saying Leeds players covered around 10k more ground than Chelsea on the day. No matter how good a team’s players are, if they don’t match the work rate of their opponents they have a problem

Team selection for this match will be interesting. The U21's have a home game against Brighton today and they are in the top tier having got promoted and therefore will be up against stronger opposition. The likes of Bueno, Cundle and Mosquera played in their last win against Blackburn and are therefore getting game time. Much different than last season when the fringe players were just warming the first team bench.

Sarkic will almost definitely start, but too many changes might be the wrong way to approach this game. After all, winning it, is a pathway to European football.

More changes the better for this one.

Let's face it, we ain't winning the comp are we?

posted on 22/8/22

Maybe not, but we have a better chance in this competition than any other we're involved in I would say.

posted on 22/8/22

There's absolutely no reason why we can't go all the way in this competition, with a positive attitude.

U21s have two league games this week. Home to Brighton tonight then away at Palace on Friday. Suspect we will field a pretty young team for tonight’s game as some of their players will likely be on the bench or even starting against Preston tomorrow

posted on 22/8/22

Don’t think making many changes for tomorrows game means we don’t want to, or can’t, win it. I suspect Preston will make quite a few changes themselves and I’d like to think we have more strength in depth than them

posted on 22/8/22

We are always terrible in the league cup that is for sure.

posted on 22/8/22

Like to think we can score past them given they haven't conceded a goal all season. 450 minutes and counting
