Not too worried about Arsenal as their fixtures have been very kind but City are a machine and I can see them winning it by 20 points.
West Ham were very clever last night, they learnt from the Forest game and let us have possession. They knew that we are hopeless at turning long periods of midfield control into chances and want to play on the break. Ironically we scored on the break but overall West Ham did a job on us and other teams will see that and follow suit. We desperately need a plan b as we're getting sussed out.
We lack creativity and Conte needs to sort it because the points total is good but the performances have been mostly underwhelming.
Whats clear is that we havent hit anything like top form yet. Son has been dreadful, Kane has scored but his decision making has been pretty poor, missing Romero. We've done well to get results on the board and we sit above the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea who have had easier starts, have also not hit their best form but have dropped easier points.
We're 8 points better off from 4 games we lost last season, so its progress albeit that we could and should be more dominant in some of these games.
So, very pleased with the start and look to improve further as we get into the season.
Yesterday wasn't a game where we lost tactically, it was on the players
--
Agree with this. Though as you say, it's on Conte to find solutions. We have a deeper squad now - Hojbjerg and Son should've come off. Royal should've come off. Solid start if unspectacular and plenty of room for improvement.
Expect the performances to tick up again with Romero coming back. I'd also like to see Conte move away from Royal and Davies. They're both steady eddies (Davies looked even better than that last season) but we have players who on paper would offer us more building out from the back and going forward

I don’t really think it’s a case of learning from Forest - it’s well document how we play and & WHU are another team who prefer to play on the counter.
It all worked first half, our players just lost their focus second half

Tough to say really, maybe Son comes off. However with PEH we have Skipp who has been out for 8 months and a not yet ready Sarr to come on. It didn’t seem like we had the options ready yet.

Was going to post something similar and pretty much agree with everything you’ve written. Despite the points and despite the fact we haven’t been yet it just seems very stale at the moment and a bit concerning. My fear is that we will rue not properly strengthening our two most needed areas of RWB and LCB.

Call me old fashioned, but if they're on the bench they're ready to play. Skipp had a contact injury. It's not like he's getting over a muscle tear
I think he'll turn out to be a nice addition. Probably our best ball playing centre back based on what he did in la Liga. Obvious concerns about brain farts but I'm happy to chalk that up to the pressure cooker at Barca until we see him continue that with us

This is generally how West Ham play. Effectively though with both teams being counter attacking teams, the better more technical team of the two will ultimately have more of the ball. Which was the case.

I agree that that's generally how they play but then it becomes a battle of who is better at forcing the other team into an unnatural style of play and they outdid us on that front.
Against Forest and even the Chelsea game we had plenty of good break situations over the 90 but last night they were virtually non-existent and as if to prove the point we scored from one of our rare breakaways.
ironically, in a game where we had nearly two thirds possession we actually conceded a lot of chances, whereas in other games we have conceded a lot more possession but few decent chances.

An in form Son gets his cushion header right and is clean through on goal last night. He's had a gilt edged chance like this in most games so far and his touch has cost him.
A big part of our tactics rely on our quality attackers being clinical and the opposition having to take chances which plays further into our hands.
So far we have been far from clinical in the final third and in a lot of our transition play/playing out.
OP
Decent article. Arsenal have had the easiest set of fixtures possible, and when I looked at them I had them down for 15/15. Their run will come to an end at Old Trafford at the weekend. Man City are financially doped, so anything they do is meaningless.
Spurs have made a solid, if unspectacular start. Once they hit some easier home gimmes, they will put a few to the swords
