Ok, I need to educate you people now, in 1992 Pak played England and were awarded a point they didn't deserve due to the rain. However, they lost 2 points in theie match against SA in the same tournament because of the rain too.

In the late 80s and early 90s, Pak would win ODI tournament after tournament, I didn't think England were the favourites against Pak in the 1992 final. Am I alone in thinking that?

Correct.pakistan were pre tournament favourites but owing to poor start,injuries to waqar and imran and Nzl remarkable performance in group stage meant Pakistan were underdogs

England vs India should be a great match.

I agree England had a better odi side then us because in odi series that followed world Cup they demolished us

All I know is in 1996 and 1999 England were absolute pants in ODI.

I still remember the 3-0 series loss in Zimbabwe around 1996-7.

Yes I remember before the tournament it was Australia and Pakistan as favourites. Both teams flopped early but I felt if one of them peaked at the right time, they would be very difficult to stop.

England won 4-1 against us in 92 series held after World cup

And they won against us in 96 also by 2-1

Yes the 1992 4-1 win was a bit of revenge for the World Cup, however the Test series was won by Pak 2-1.

After 1992, England were pretty decent in ODIs in England with the white kits, red balls and 55 overs, but with the white ball, coloured clothing and 50 overs, we were total garbage. In the 1996 World Cup, we lost to everyone apart from UAE and Netherlands, lost to Zimbabwe 3-0 and WI 4-1, then we were out in the group stage at home in 1999.

92 team in coloured or white was pretty good one.world class batters like fairbrother,lamb and Gooch and good bowlers too

Yes, we looked great in that 1992 World Cup, but unfortunately many players the wrong side of 30 and once they retired, we had a very weak period especially from 1992-1996, we competed better in 1997 and 1998 but 1999 was another disaster year.

Our white ball cricket only really took off again when we brought Trescothick into the side around the year 2000. This may have also been the year we started to play matches at home with coloured clothing, 50 overs and white balls.
