Not sure I could watch that game again but I do generally agree with your considered critique Marsch.

And their stats against 10 men are? Do they always lose then?
----
It's a pointless question to ask when they've not played anyone else with just 10 men.

If chances are greatly reduced no matter what you train for, then why train for it?

Every team trains with constraints, every team trains man down and every team trains man up, it's not something out of the ordinary.

I've said elsewhere happy with a point after going down to 10 men, but it was not a good performance.

Villa had a number of clear cut chances, cut through us with ease, only reason we got a point, was because Villa were so poor, it was not because we performed so well.

Any team will fear playing Man City now even with 11 players! Haaland looks unstoppable!

Hands up, who among us hasn't woken up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night, dreaming about Haaland one-on-one with Coops?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That does not bear thinking about. Poor ol' Coops is already past his best and out of his depth in this division, love him tho we do!

Isn't there a clause in his contract that he doesn't play against us cos he's Leeds really and only temporarily at City?

love cooper but if he's our best defender, well that's the problem then.

My personal opinion is that it’s a tough gig being a centreback at Leeds…. with the way both bielsa and now marsch play. When the opposition beat the press there’s a lot of space to cover… and obviously no shortage of quality attackers coming at you.

Despite that caveat, I personally don’t think any of our defenders are up to mid-table premier league standard.

I think it’s an area that needs an overhaul in the summer if we want to move forward.

He’s been our best centre back for 3/4 years, just injury prone, we had 3 great seasons under Bielsa where he was excellent, don’t get the criticism

Don’t disagree, it’s part his organisation skills as much as playing skills, and no way does he deserve some of the flak he gets. St Pontus was more error prone in our promotion year and Coops was good first year in the Prem once he adjusted to the pace.

He’s injury prone and not the quickest though. Hope he continues to prove people wrong… just think centre halves will need an overhaul if we want to move forward.

I agree about the last 3/4 seasons Wetherby, but that was under Bielsa who seemed to know how to make players play above themselves a la Phillips. But Bielsa's gone and Coops looks worse than ordinary - he looks vulnerable.

Why did Bartley improve alongside him, so too Pontus and Ben White. Why did we lose horribly against Brentford yet get a battling point, one man down against Villa.
You have to look at Coops not only for him defensive qualities but what he brings to the back four.
As a defensive outfit, year in year out we improve with Cooper there and are clearly much easier to beat in his absence. He was out for most of the time we struggled last season.
Solid defender, great captain and a wonderful human being.

I have been highly critical of Cooper over the years, lack of pace, wrestling opponents in the box at set pieces etc. It has to be acknowledged that we do seem to be worse defensively when he is missing. The defence is horribly exposed when our full backs are stranded upfield when we lose the ball too easily when attacking. So often we see huge gaps down the wings which the CBs then either have to go out to try to cover or stay in covering central strikers, no win situation unfortunately.

Going into the future, I would see Struijk as left CB and Koch as right with Cooper around to allow Struijk time to gain experience. A proper LB is needed as well and we should try to move Llorente on if anybody will take him

I love Cooper, too, and maybe I am being too harsh on him. I do think he brings morale and a sense of unity to the team. I think by the end of this season, we'll be able to make more of an informed judgment call on the guy. One thing i do hope for is that when he hangs up his boots we can keep him at the club to work in some capacity behind the scenes. He's a good bloke and a positive influence, that's for sure.
