Tbh much as I'm not at all a Russian sympathiser, I don't think it's a great tweet when people were killed by said strike. In a way, it's understandable, given the losses and adversity Ukraine have faced due to one man's desperation for a legacy. But I still don't think it's overly appropriate.

All's fair in love and war I guess

Indeed. If it pushes Russia closer to the end of the war though it may have saved many lives.

It’s not going to be pushing Russia closer to the end of the war. It’s going to be pushing Russia further into a corner where what comes next is unprecedented

……..

Putin is already backed into a corner. He can not come out of this with any credibility. At least two countries on his border will soon be joining NATO because of his actions.

I dont expect a single Ukrainian to not want to fight to the death to protect every inch of Ukranian soil from the Russians. And I expect that many fewer but enough Ukranians and Russions would still gamble the prospect of a localised or even God forbid, a World nuclear Armageddon as a consequence, if absolutely necessary.

Not sure many people outside of Russia and Ukraine share these thoughts, though. And accepting that all is fair in love and war, as a fait accomplis, leaves a chill to us intellegent thinkers in this scenario. It isn't.

Let's hope that the rest of the World can make a concerted effort to get the belligerents to sue for a lasting peace by negotiation, rather than concentrating on pumping billions of $s of military hardware by proxy into this conflict.

You are not going to negotiate any kind of peace with Putin until Russia becomes the Soviet Union again.

Putin may be many things but he isnt a communist.

I dont expect I will be asked to lead any negotiations. But the situation needs calming right now. And the only way will be through negotiations using diplomatic channels.

Tbh I think VC is right here. What Putin is is a 70 year old man, not in as great health as he once was. He's not getting any younger and is aware of that, with cementing his legacy now an immediate concern and obsession imo.

I think his ultimate goal was to get the Soviet Union back together, as he saw that as a proud former soldier as a humiliation. With the situation as it is now, God knows what he's thinking. As things haven't gone as he'd hoped or expected

Russians will be angry but Ukraine will be like "Crimea river".

That's the abridged version anyway.

Well, this is all I will agree with you.

(What is wrong with Putins health that you have been told btw. Apart from being 70 which isn't that old these days)

Turning Russia back to the Soviet Union was meant as the Empire building he wants to do not communism.

Putin’s heroes are Stalin and Peter the Grate. That tells you a lot about his motivations.

The only peace settlement is Ukraine territory returned + Crimea. That isn't gonna happen until Putin is gone cos it is a climb down. Everything else is noise.

The way it’s looking right now is Ukraine taking Kherson in the next few weeks and by doing so will capture beyween 15000-30000 Russian troops. Once that happens they’ll head to Crimea and once that goes Russia will either sue for peace or drop a tactical nuke you’d think. Even then dropping a tactical nuke doesn’t lead to all out nuclear war. There are several paths the west can take before things get really bad and I’m sure they will.

I see Russia using very harsh tactics soon. They have just appointed a general known for brutality and its the way they will go imho now.

They appointed the General known for brutality six months ago. Or is the one more brutal.

Annexing the Crimea wasn't overly appropriate either. Fack the Russians. May they burn forever.

I didn't agree with Putin's declaration of war on Ukraine, I think it was ill-advised and the end game was bound to be a tall order. But neither do I agree with NATO and America virtually surrounding Russia and China on both.land and sea and engaging in massive military build-ups and war exercises in Ukraine and surrounding countries. I vividly remember how America responded to the Cuban missile crisis.

If the Ukrainians can retake Kherson, it’ll be hugely symbolic. I can see the Russians throwing everything at defending it, even at the cost of losses in the north.
