Away from Spurs and the Prem

It's exciting in the same way that a league 1 game is exciting...competitive low quality football where poor coaching and plenty of errors creates drama of a sort. Bit more edgy than the more sanitised elite level.

Have never tuned in and would never bother doing so, would be like watching the Austrian league or something. Tin pot with no big names very little competition or jeopardy in most fixtures. Bit like watching a crap movie where you don't care if all the characters die.

In fairness Rangers and Celtic have at least started to look better in Europe in the past few seasons.

A good mate of mine is a Partick Thistle fan and there's nothing that makes him more angry than being asked if he supports Rangers or Celtic.

Needless to say if we get talking to anybody he hasn't met before in the pub (when he's out of earshot) I tell them to ask that exact question then watch him go up.

When you consider their budget/wages I thought Rangers did very well to get so close to winning the Europa last season but of course the cl is different gravy.

Im not sure this article is particularly fair

there have been 2 leagues over the last decade that have only had 1 winner in each of the last 10 seasons ; germany (bayern munich) and bulgaria (ludogorets).

nobody ever calls the bundesliga boring

That`s as maybe, but both of those countries have had several title winners over the same period that Rangers and Celtic have shared the league between them.

And let`s be fair I have only gone back over 37 years of the Scottish League. You could say that over the last 60 years, Rangers and Celtic have won probably 55 leagues between them. The competition is so bad, what is the point of it?

It`s Mickey Mouse football and has been for decades, I would not want Rangers and Celtic joining the PL though, you can`t have Jock teams competing in the English league. Leave them to it, its up to their own association to sort out the uncompetitive nature of their league.

so you did a lot of research then

Wiki - Scottish PL winners

a 3 year old could do that tbh

So what other research did you do?

TBF the Scottish PL does not have the money that goes into the PL. It also contains the auld firm derby which is the biggest in Britain. It may not match the quality of the PL but the intensity is just as high

A million years ago I was loosely involved with a property developer in Scotland who came up with a plan for the 2 Edinburgh clubs to have a new shared stadium and he would have paid them something like £50m which they could have shared and spent on players to raise the standard of their challenge to the 2 Glasgow giants but they weren't interested. £25m bought quite a lot of a player in Scotland 20 years ago but their parochial interests took priority.

Stick to the article. Is the Scottish Prem shiiittte? The most boring and worthless league in world football.

Nice though watching the two team league getting embarrassed in the CL.

Not the biggest in Great Britain at all. It gets smaller crowds than most London Derbies.

Two clubs that are equivalent to the local dog and duck in England.

I agree but how would Spurs on anyone else do with 1% of what they get from Sky today?

They were dominating long before Sky turned up. And those two clubs trouser all the money available in Scotland, giving you a massive advantage. So no different really to Sky.

The money we trouser is due to the large fan base and season ticket holders. The TV money for the whole league is £30m - winner 17%, bottom 4.5% - that £3.75m difference does not explain the gap but it overall explains why the competition is so bad.

The old firm derby's rivalry has little to do with football and or city rivalry.
