Are Spurs really a big club?

Yes… but they’re not a super club (like Utd or Arsenal).

They haven’t won a triple crown title since before Bill Clinton was President

They're a team with a cool stadium, and one good outfield player and one good goalie judging by his performance tonight

posted on 19/10/22

It annoys me when Man City bottle it against them. Hope that doesn't happen this season!

What's a triple crown? What ever it is it sounds three times as much as spurs would win.

Was about to ask. Sounds like some dumb Americanism.

I find it kind of weird in a way though. In that I would expect such tactics to have more success against better sides and maybe lead to dropped points against weaker teams who sit back more. But it hasn't worked out that way

Triple crown is generalltly used in Snooker. The 3 BBC tournaments are known as the triple crown. The World championship, UK championship and The Masters. I'm not personally a fan of the terminolgy but it is what it is. The football equivalent would be the premier league, Champions league and the FA cup.

Hello both.

The triple crown consists of; league, primary domestic cup and primary continental cup...

So for a PL team that is, of course; PL, FA Cup and UCL.

posted on 19/10/22

No. Leicester have won more silverware in recent years and look how bad we are currently.

posted on 20/10/22

Of course they’re a big club. How they play doesn’t change that.

posted on 20/10/22

They are the worlds biggest small club. Can you name me another team that's 61 years without a league title with only 2 league cups in 30 years of PL and no trophies in 15 years?

They are only top 6 and hyped by the media because Arsenal and Man utd have been poor for almost a decade. Their measuring stick is based on where they are in relation to Arsenal in the table. Spurs see this as success. You don't see Arsenal defining success as finishing above man utd who are a bigger club. You will see spurs fade away soon when the 2 teams start getting their act together like we're seeing this season. Kane has like 2 seasons left at top level, will he waste them at spurs?

You literally only needed to look on here at various times over the past to see the constant references to ‘St Totteringham’s Day’ and various articles about said day. Your fans became obsessed with it after you were no longer in the title race each season.

posted on 20/10/22

Why do we keep doing this?

No they are not a big club, they are just the current Newcastle or Blackburn from previous decades, decent for a bit. Big clubs win things and big clubs have won more than two league titles in their history.

Our measuring stick at our BEST is where we are to the league leaders. tottenham's measuring stick at their best is based on where they are in the table in relation to Arsenal. Are you honestly going to tell me Arsenal, during those trophy drought years, finishing above spurs and getting top 4 were anywhere near their best? This is tottenham's BEST EVER start to a league season and look how crap they are, or is it because Arsenal and Man utd look better? Your ceiling gets praise, half ceiling, (trophy drought years) is seen as failure, even with the top 4 finishes. Try again.

They're not even a Blackburn. At least Blackburn won a title in their short period in the PL. What's spurs excuse for 61 years without a league title? Leicester were the only team between spurs and a league title when everyone else was poor and spurs couldn't stop them.

Now you’re just moving the goalposts.

You’ve quoted in your earlier post that Spurs apparently define success by finishing above Arsenal and so I merely demonstrated that was what many of your fans were doing circa the mid 00s to the last few seasons. Being at your best or off it is irrelevant, you seem to be making a point about outlook here.

And who are you to say where Spurs’s ‘measuring stick’ (stupid phrase btw) is. Are you defining this by the opinion of the club’s owners, the players, fans ? Do you have anything to support this assertion or can you point me to any related opinion polls or topics on the matter which would support your assertion ?

Yeh he is pretty gobby, considering how many seasons Arsenal have trailed behind Spurs. Spurs will still comfortably finish above them again come May.
