If Musk is to be believed he wants to make it a free speech platform where all types of discussions are encouraged and not moderated unless its extreme like CP, Drug peddling etc

Sounds fair. What's the downside?

You realise how flawed this is, right? Either you are entirely unmoderated in which case it would be awful and the vast majority of normal people would leave. Or you moderate it based on a set of standards which would be impossible to maintain and you end up with the same Twitter only worse and with tons more complaints along the way. I mean, they're going to ban drug dealing chat but not racism?

It's just nonsense.

I see now. It's not an actual discussion around what an unmoderated social media platform would look like. My bad

So you'd be ok with someone spreading lies about you or being abusive to you/people you care about as long as you don't read it yourself? No one is. That's sheit. It's a nonsense man

There's a difference between free speech and being able to say whatever you like.

posted on 27/10/22

Twitter is already a bit of a cesspool, but Musk buying it will turn it into 8chan.

Well no, there isn't.

Free speech isn't necessarily a good thing though, I'm glad it doesn't exist in full here.

Yes there is.

Free speech is the right to express an opinion within the confines of what is socially acceptable i.e. dictated by law.

Saying what you like could include racist, sexist and offensive remarks.

Musk is one of the biggest hypocrites going when it comes to free speech.

He tried to get the account banned that tracked his flights

posted on 27/10/22

Might create some free speech vigilante bots to ironically punish and educate those who use it for bad and claim it as their right. The bot gets their personal information, finds a photo of them and deep fakes it into a video of them watching child porrrn then post it all over twitter. Free speech. Nothing could go wrong.

Were there any rules he broke? Would his account get preferential treatment as opposed to a regular individual or vice versa?

Yeah you're right but that's not helpful in this context.

What would be different about that too the current Twitter?

What is perceived as racist in white/western societies can be perfectly fine in let's say China or South America. How do you moderate that?

Well, the OP implies that Musk taking over Twitter somehow increases the potential for free speech and opens up the debate about Trump.

So I think it is a helpful distinction to make, as many people don't seem to understand the difference.
