Hay:

first instalment ordered by CAS (6.7m Euros) is one of three due for JKA. There other two aren't due yet, according to CAS.

"The panel held that the Purchase Obligation had been
triggered at the end of the 2019-20 season, even though the season had concluded later than expected"

Interesting take from one poster. Not sure if it's correct or not:

"Loan deals end on 30th of June if you recall we had to renegotiate the loan deals for Harrison and Ben White. We extended Harrisons loan and pushed the option to buy out for another year. Fifa have contradicted their own rules in this case"

Let's face it, was a crap signing to start with wrapped up with some utter ineptitude in our club's management.

Doesn't sit well with me at all this. If we were obliged to sign JKA, then we should hold our hands up and pay what we owe. However..... if we're paying 18 million, we want the bloody player! How can Leipzig get 18 million for a player they let go for free and who has since played for 2 other teams.

You dont even get an 18 million fine, so to lose 18 million for nothing will be an absolute travesty.

“Leeds United are surprised and disappointed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision, which not only contradicts the language and meaning of the contract but also the practices adopted in European football under FIFA regulations, due to the unique impact of the extensions to the season necessitated by Covid postponements.

“The club will now review carefully all of its legal options with a view to an immediate appeal.

“We will make no further comment at this time.”

^^^^^

That review of 'all' legal options shouldn't take too long.

Thing is, did the deal have a run out date, or was it till the end off season?..

I'm not sure!..

But if I remember correctly, he was returning from injury and the club were planning on using him, he was injured again in training!..

That for me say's the club were in the wrong and should have sit him on the sidelines as soon as the run out date was reached!..

That or returned him to his club!..

The whole saga just leaves such a bad taste in the mouth. The club have acted in an awful way to my mind. But, have to feel for JKA in all of this too! I can’t say too many fans will be surprised by this verdict, writing has been on the wall a long time!

Granted the guy suffered from long covid and this probably hindered his development but since 2020 he has played 17 league games including 4 matches for Nantes B side. This season he is playing for FC Basel and whilst he has scored 3 goals all of them have been penalties and he mostly bench warms.
We didn't complete the move because he wasn't considered good enough, his record since 2020 does little to dispel that, had we paid the 18 million and completed the deal many more millions would have been wasted on wages.
We may end up paying the £18m for no reward but had the deal gone through much more might have been shelled out for, probably, the same outcome.

Trying to look for positives but agree this is right out of the papa smurf book of dodgy dealings, the club dfeserves to get it's fingers burnt, it leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth.

Can we now stop saying Seth Johnson was worst signing?

The deal had a definite end date specified (which coincidentally was the date at which the season was originally supposed to have ended) which is why the club thought they could wriggle out of the commitment.

A fixed date on a contract normally is regarded as sacrosanct. I know we were trying to evade the contractual obligations, but a date is a date. We should have got the decision in this case.

A fair decision for this case would have been for the two clubs to go "halvsies" on the price of the player.

disagree fair decision of Leeds to pay the fee that they agreed upon IMO.

Deal was, we pay £18m for him, if we got promoted.

Weve been a disgrace, should have paid it straight up

And how do Victor and Angus explain this one in the programme notes?

Player is totally blameless - Club Execs messed up big time (lets all throw £18 M plus legal fees down the pan).

Yet another one in the chronicles of LS11 total and utter embarrassing fiascos.

47, I know the club had its rights, but their plan was to use him!..

If he didn't get another injury and the club used him in the run in, they'd look even dumber saying he wasn't any good and trying to send him back after the season had ended!..

They are going to appeal.

It’s just going to cost even more money in legal fees when it gets rejected.

Though I guess Leeds are probably trying to drag it out in the hope they don’t get relegated and can pay the fee in the summer.
