Hugo is saying this as he's French. If he were to say anything, it would shine a lot on the atrocities and the discrimination that the French carry out in their own nation and still in Africa.

I'm guessing he was asked a question and he answered it. What can he do when half the world believes something and the other half feel completely opposite?

I'm starting to get a bit bored of this view footballers have to take a stand in Qatar.

Obviously Qatar is a morally bankrupt state with some outdated laws and treatment of workers. But the decision to play there was taken by the corrupt cants at Fifa.

I find the media coverage a bit OTT. If we were playing in the US would people talk about boycotting the states where abortion is illegal because Imo that is just as backwards as not allowing same s*x relationships. Or wear Black armbands for all the Iraqi's unnecessarily killed in illegal wars?

I'm at the stage where I'm just going to watch and enjoy the world cup now.

The fact that it was always going to be impossible to get a country to change its laws, cultures, traditions etc for the sake of a month football tournament, it could be seen as 'fake'.

I'm just bored of footballers/pundits etc who are going out there justifying it by shining they'll use the opportunity to 'shine a light' on the issues. No you won't. You're going there because you get paid lots to do so. Just be open about that.

It's probably going to be the first world Cup which behaviour of the fans will be great. I doubt any hooligans wants to go there for a fight when you know if you break the law, the law won't play around.

I don't think anyone was expecting the Qatari regime to change anything. But dismissing the abuses and violations as "fake" is totally disingenuous.
