I think the few thousand people that will go to Qatar have a valid complaint here.
The other millions who will watch on TV need to shut their traps as this does not affect them in any way. Stop preaching all over the place.
Everyone bans what they want and the word cup should comply with the laws of it's host. What next? Arab countries refusing to play in a world cup held in a place where women are banned from wearing a headdress? Where's the line? How far can we go with this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But its the hypocrisy and elitism of it. The corporates who have paid 10s of thousands can drink in the stadium.
Qatar know well that money gets you whatever you want, including a WC, and therefore if you pay enough, of course you can drink in the ground. The actual fans who make a WC what it is, well feck'em, they're not elite enough be granted such freedom.
Its either banned or it aint. Its either a "non alcoholic country" or it isnt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We need to respect their culture of no drinking even though you can drink if you pay enough. Hilarious that the likes of Thorg and Redinthehead are siding with the Qatar equivalent of gammons
----------------------------------------------------------------------

My call is Budweiser knew this all along and went along with it. I'd bet their supply chain was primed all along else they'd be crying now. Zero alcohol probably a better margin earner anyway? Their contract will be with FIFA in any case.
Quite amusing tbh.
It’s difficult for me, on the one hand Qatar are taking the pizz, on the other hand this will hurt FIFA financially which I faaaacking love.
Additionally, they have faaaacked other Middle East countries from getting a World Cup for a very long time.
Let’s be honest, FIFA couldn’t give a faaack about hooliganism. They will make the right noises about homophobia and racism but do they actually genuinely care? Misogyny ditto. But faaaack with their bottom line and you will be black balled forever.

I was thinking similar. They have hundreds if not thousands of callers stocked with......Bud Zero, now fans will literally be forced to drink it if they want a pint when they would never have otherwise considered it.
Let's see if there is a legal case after this.
Farcical that this happens 2 days before after years in the planning.

Alcohol free beer isn't actually alcohol free either. It just has to be below 0.5% to be marketed as such. We should probably let the Qataris know that, so they can ban that too.

1) Beer will still be sold, it will be zero alcohol beer
2) Alcohol was also banned by UEFA for champions league games (pretty sure Leeds played in that once)
3) Alcohol is still available in Qatar, just not at the stadia.
4) The objective is to have a football World Cup, it’s football not a beer festival.

I think that is a UK only thing. Further, if it is marketed as 'zero' then it has to actually be zero or fall foul of consumer laws.

It's an everywhere thing. Alcohol is still present due to the brewing process. There was a typo in my above post, it's actually 0.05% to be classed as alcohol free.
Alcohol free beer is still classed as Haram rather than Halal due to this.

Cool then why announce to the world alcohol will be sold, let everyone pay good money to come to your country on that premise, then ban it last minute. Qatar are scammers.

How is it elitist?
When you travel first class do you have the same perks as economy class?
Some people will be in the stands and others in boxes. Just like in a flight you pay for what you can afford and don't complain that first class have more perks and a more expansive menu.
A box is £19,000 so it would make no sense to buy a box to have the same perks as a guy in the stands.
Another bogus criticism.

Have the Qataris declared themselves a non alcoholic country? Alcohol is legal in Qatar, there's just more rules around it and that's been the case for a long time. So I don't get this "Its either banned or it aint" angle. Doesn't make sense.

Yeah, especially alcohol-free beer. Not really sure why anyone would drink it over, say, an orange juice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife drinks it regularly. Find it really weird.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s very weird, all the taste of beer and none of the benefit
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s pointless also alcohol free Guinness is appalling

Alcohol free beer isn't actually alcohol free either. It just has to be below 0.5% to be marketed as such. We should probably let the Qataris know that, so they can ban that too.

1) Beer will still be sold, it will be zero alcohol beer
2) Alcohol was also banned by UEFA for champions league games (pretty sure Leeds played in that once)
3) Alcohol is still available in Qatar, just not at the stadia.
4) The objective is to have a football World Cup, it’s football not a beer festival.

As long as the England fans can still get coke speed and yabba, we’ll still rio the place up yaassedrrrrbhhhh

My call is Budweiser knew this all along and went along with it. I'd bet their supply chain was primed all along else they'd be crying now. Zero alcohol probably a better margin earner anyway? Their contract will be with FIFA in any case.
Quite amusing tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was thinking similar. They have hundreds if not thousands of callers stocked with......Bud Zero, now fans will literally be forced to drink it if they want a pint when they would never have otherwise considered it.
Let's see if there is a legal case after this.
Farcical that this happens 2 days before after years in the planning.

I think that is a UK only thing. Further, if it is marketed as 'zero' then it has to actually be zero or fall foul of consumer laws.
LAs in Germany are growing massively though you go back many years and some were marketed as an introduction beer for children!

The fan parks will still sell alcohol.
Might be the best behaved World Cup yet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are traveling based on the fact you can have a beer during a two hour window in a stadium then that would be pretty tragic wouldn't it.
