I normally can figure out your usernames Rob, but not this one. What's it about?

The band.

Martinez’s save wasn’t what I’d call a brilliant one. It was a good one in an amazing moment, but technically not the best.

big difference between greatest and most important

Probably not as important but the Dudek save from Shevchenko in the 2005 CL final was insane really. Still not sure how he did it.

The rider in the OP makes the choice impossible really. A save in the first minute can be as vital as the last, and change the complexion of a match

Dudek against Milan in CL final

posted on 21/12/22

just watched the dudek save, and to be honest i think its a terrible miss rather than a great save, he had the whole goal to aim for and literally hit it straight back at him

Comparing a save from the final of a Mickey Mouse competition to a game-winning save in the World Cup Final

From my perspective it is Alex Stepney save from Eusebio at the end of normal time in 1968 with the score at 1-1.

take ya pick, probably 12 out of 15 that top martinez's save

Best save in world cup was from Szczesny against the Saudi's. First the pen save and the follow up he got his fingers on a impossible save.

posted on 21/12/22

It'll certainly go down as an iconic save. As for being the greatest I don't know.

The game wasn't as important as a World Cup Final but I always think of this one when thinking of great saves - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSeIx0i4RRI

Yeah, put Martinez up there too straight after. Possibly the worst header ever?

posted on 21/12/22

That Martinez header was before, Muani’s chance was with a minute left of stoppage time. The execution of that header was terrible, but it was still a difficult one because the ball was a little behind where he’d want it.

Robben missing a one on one against Spain in 2010 is up there. But there was about 20 minutes left for Spain to equalise had he scored, whereas Muani’s would have most likely been the world cup winning goal.

Higuain’s is another obvious one as well.
