So in Jan 2020, the man suffers a double stress fracture in his back which should keep him out for three months. He isn’t happy with that, so he has a special girdle made to support his back so he can return to training as quickly as possible.
Then throughout the 2020/21 season, he plays with a torn muscle in his shoulder which needs operating on. He puts off the operation because he wants to keep playing, but only manages to get on the pitch by being pumped full of painkilling injections before every game. He can’t do gym work, and he can’t perform all the exercises the other players are undertaking in training.
How the fack can you sprint at an elite sports level with torn shoulder musculature and when you can’t training properly?
He finishes the same season with pulled ligaments in his foot. But plays through that too..
Despite these (serious) issues, through 2019/20 and 2020/21, he manages to make 93 appearances, scoring 42 goals.
Whilst United fans should be lauding his extreme commitment and, given the circumstances, remarkable contribution during this period, what do we get?
“I knew Gashford would never become never become an elite player.”
“He’s lazy. He doesn’t even give a shiiiit.”
“Can’t even be bothered sprinting for the ball anymore.”
I facking hate United fans, I really do. Horrible bunch of ingrates.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed
Also, really shiyte form from our clubs medical and coaching staff though, Solskjaer included playing him in about 60 games a year under him through all of that.
Everyone was willing to risk the career and future of a young academy graduate for the short term benefit of their immediate/present situation.
I know you cant force a player to have an operation, but it doesn't sit right with me somehow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Disagree entirely
Maybe…..just maybe not everyone had such comprehensive knowledge of Rashford injuries as posted above and therefore felt that he wasn’t putting a shift in.
Are we really now saying that people cannot express an opinion without having ALL of the facts without being labelled an ingrate?
Agree that this playing him through all of that is pretty poor behaviour by the club and Ole.
Great post rosso those ‘fans’ you speak of are likely also the first to accuse other clubs like madrid of having horrible fans too (not completely wrong there mind..)
His injuries, lack of recovery time plus all the stress he’s had dealing with the government have been discussed at length here for a couple years. You’d have to be an idiot to not know about them.

There's one thing knowing that he had injuries (which is common place in sport) and it’s something else being fully aware of the detailed facts as set out in Rosso’s post.
Not being aware of the full set of facts and therefore having an incorrect opinion does not make you an idiot or an ingrate.
Are every single one of your opinions backed up with detailed facts? No they won’t be, but that doesn’t make you an ingrate or an idiot.

As for Rashford, good to see him enjoying his football again but he still does have a tendency to try and beat too many people too often when a simple lay off would suffice
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, even with the goal last night he should have passed to Garnacho. I know it worked out last night but 9 times out of 10 or more a defender cuts that out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure most great goals, you can pinpoint a moment where a "better" pass was on. Attackers take risks, it's what makes sport great.
For Rashford, consistency seems directly linked with form and confidence. 9 times out of 10 of last season is very different to x times out of 10 of this season.

I recall many conversations where some fans defended Rashford based on the injuries he was coping with, and others dismissed this as making excuses for a player who simply wasn't trying or lacked talent. It's fair to say that not all the detailed information about his injuries was known to all fans. But also that plenty of fans encountered and flatly dismissed the injury 'excuse'. The best you could say about then is that they didn't give the benefit of the doubt to Rashford and were willing to write him off without waiting to find out more about the injury context.
In hindsight it does sound like Ole handled both Rashford and Martial's fitness issues absolutely disastrously. Rashford is starting to find himself again but Martial still seems to be paying the price for it.

Yes I’m sure that’s exactly what happened, I just don’t think it’s a particularly awful action worthy of labelling them ingrates.
Lots of players have injuries and play through them, these fans are for the most part not doctors, don’t have medical knowledge and I think if we think back there was a lot of times where it would genuinely appear as if Rashy’s heart wasn’t in it, as in he wasn’t constantly & visibly grimacing, limping etc. That doesn’t mean that the injuries weren’t the issue but to a typical football fan who watches the games, maybe sky sports / talkSPORT / bt sport, I think they could be excused for thinking that Rashy was the problem, at least in part. I don’t think that makes them ingrates or idiots.
Calling him gashford does, on the other hand 😂
Rashford has a combined 6 goals and assists this season in the PL.
That put him 22nd in the goals/ assists table for the season (along with 8 other players).
I'm unsure what this good form people speak of is, but we need a lot more than 6 goal contributions from our wingers if we want to challange.

Rosso, I have been through this loads of times with some of our fans. During a period when we saw Pogba seemingly choosing when to have operations, Cavani putting country before club and Martial ruling himself out of games when he could probably have played, Rashford was literally putting his body on the line for the club filling in wherever he was asked. And still he gets slated.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
pogba played whilst suffering badly from covid - something confirmed by both the manager and the player a month later, though not, of course, at the time, which allowed fans to vent. he was also brought back from injury too soon in the 19-20 season, which aggravated his ankle injury, and eventually led to him needing surgery.
martial has also publicly stated that ogs forced him to play when injured, again not mentioning this to the media or the fans, and again allowing the fans to vent at a player seemingly not trying.
the ignorance of our fanbase i can live with, but the rank hypocrisy does grate at times.
I think Ole’s squad rotation was pretty poor altogether. Plenty were made to play when probably needed a rest which meant we went into the end of seasons absolutely shattered, especially our key players.

Fair enough, we've seen enough false dawns from Rashford the past couple of seasons. I'd like to see him perform for the remainder of this season, not 4 or 5 games. The opposition he's scored against too, West Ham, Villa, Iran, Wales and Burnley
I hope he keeps it up, at his best he's a fantastic player, one of my favourites to watch in fact, and a local lad too which adds to the romanticism for our fans.

But have you actually seen him looking like he is fully fit in the last 2 seasons? I don't think he has been, apart from the last few months. Which is kind of the point of the article. Hopefully he can get a bit of consistency now.
He is fully fit when scoring against crap teams, he is suffering with injuries when playing poorly the other 90 percent of the time.
I haven't met a professional sportsperson who doesn't suffer with injuries to be honest.

Exactly. It really wasn’t that difficult to read up on the issues Rashford has had these past couple years and like I said it was discussed here at length. Rosso probably wrote similar things detailing his injuries several times.

And still he gets slated.

pogba played whilst suffering badly from covid - something confirmed by both the manager and the player a month later, though not, of course, at the time, which allowed fans to vent. he was also brought back from injury too soon in the 19-20 season, which aggravated his ankle injury, and eventually led to him needing surgery.
martial has also publicly stated that ogs forced him to play when injured, again not mentioning this to the media or the fans, and again allowing the fans to vent at a player seemingly not trying.
the ignorance of our fanbase i can live with, but the rank hypocrisy does grate at times.

I think Ole’s squad rotation was pretty poor altogether. Plenty were made to play when probably needed a rest which meant we went into the end of seasons absolutely shattered, especially our key players.

He certainly did. As did I. The back injury alone can take anything up to 18 months to fully recover from. This was discussed many time on here over the years.

Do you believe that he has been able to run at his top speed for the last couple of years (excepting the last few months)?
