PEDs innit

Casemiro makes a massive massive difference. Wins the ball back and retains possession, passing to a teammate at the earliest opportunity. It sounds simple but it's something we've lacked for an eternity.

That and we also have a very very good manager now, one who is capable of getting the team to play as a unit. We should only improve as time goes on too, which is a nice thought

As Bruno mentioned in the interview - we have the real discipline that we were missing.

A proper manager who knows what he’s doing. All the players have improved under him.

posted on 27/12/22

One thing he has done right is how he handled the Ronaldo situation. I don’t think we should underestimate how important it has been to the team to first drop him, then get rid/allow him to leave has been.

Players have improved individually but also have a much, much better sense of their collective positioning and movements in and out of possession. Things happen fluidly because better understanding of what the team is trying to do in any given phase (and greater confidence that the others are on the same wavelength) mean passes and runs are executed more automatically, decisively, quickly.

That's exactly it RR, I know you're right, but I can never see it.
I think it's partly because I only watch on TV now, so the camera only follows the ball.
I also think that I mainly watch the individual player when I am there live.
But if ETH can do it, why not all managers, it sounds easy, but clearly isn't.

If we still had Ronaldo then we could have easily won tonight's match 1-0 from a Ronaldo penalty and then he could have stormed down the tunnel after being subbed, then the Amazon cameras follow him as he drives away from the stadium with half an hour to go and we have no idea how the game actually finishes but we have the internet so we can check the final score and we would have won which is the main thing, so no different to tonight's win without him really. A win is a win.

Yeah but when we were missing chances tonight we didn’t have to suffer the tawdry “would Ronaldo have buried that?” comments from commentators & pundits

The game is all about drilling certain automatisms in and out of possession. Get players who fit those patterns and you will improve with time.

The following Dutch article explains his game principles.

That's only because Alan Shearer's brain is only capable of putting 4 consecutive words together without stopping for the voice inside his head to breathe, and that's 5 words

Seems a lot of the best sides in recent times have this type of player

Think especially with United not having much else in the way of muscle throughout the midfield and forward line he's crucial

I keep hearing how good United are only to see they are still behind a terrible Spurs side - weird that

1 PT behind with a game in hand though (Leeds at home)

I'm glad we passed on Conte. Erik actually plays good football. 😁

Not really. We had a new manager and some new players to bed in at the start of the season. We are now just starting to gel.

I’m glad we passed on Ten Hag, although hiring Nuno instead was definitely a mistake but it lead to Conte which lead to the CL again and we’re still in a good position to make it again this season

You lost to Villa a couple of games back and scored with the last kick of the game to squeak past Fulham. All you have done tonight is beat a relegation bound Forest at home.

If you do the business in a couple of weeks time against City and Arsenal I might take notice but for now, I can’t say I’m quaking in my boots

I was the second best loser though, there is some merit in that. Finishing 3rd in that is higher than United will likely finish over the next 5 years

its because good players (that Man United usually recruit) and the not so good ones do more than just pick up their ridiculous wages under ETH. Unlike they did under previous managers. The mood at Old Trafford has changed too. United supporters are beginning to expect more from the players. We get out of our seats when certain players get on the ball and no longer sit there in stunned silence, mouths wide open, not believing the trash and lack of effort that we are watching, again as we did on a regular basis under previous manangers and from some of the players. It seems that the circus days are over under ETHs United. (On the pitch anyway). Lets hope we get good and wealthy new owners next.

We finished second under Ole you moron.

posted on 28/12/22

Under Ralf and Ole we'd typically be second to the ball, lose those one on ones, the self belief or will to win every little battle on the pitch just wasn't there with those two. Opposition just looked like they wanted it more. Under ETH it's different. Even against Forest, United wanted the ball more, believed they were going to win the ball just a little bit more than Forest. I'm certain there's so much more to it than just my words but the psychology is huge. Oh and Casemiro instead of McTom is pretty handy

How do you not know what a manager does to improve a team after watching football for 70 years?
