I think he will be sacked over internationals break
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They play Porto and Villa away next.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably a loss and a draw in there too, maybe one win. Cant see them winning both.

yeah not a red card for me. But would have it mattered?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah, I think red is correct. It was reckless, as he was out of control of his body but just lunged at the player regardless. He had no control over where or how he made impact and could've caused serious injury if he'd caught his opponent more fully.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He slipped....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That made the movement of his other leg even more ridiculous though rather than being an excuse.
Thought it was one of those where if it was a yellow or a red, VAR wouldn’t have changed it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite the red card. United not able to turn around the game even with 11 players.
GT, watch it here:

You can see especially from the second angle that he sticks his boot in after he slips, as the player is getting away from him. He has the very clear option of pulling out of the challenge, but goes in anyway at full stretch and no real control over where or how he's going to catch the Spurs player.

Fernandes was shocked that he was punished so heavily and says that even Maddison felt it was very harsh.
‘It’s part of slipping going in, I don’t take him as everyone wants to see it, I don’t go with the studs, I take him with my ankle, it’s a clear foul but never a red card, that’s my feeling,’ Fernandes told Sky Sports.
‘Even Maddison when he gets up, he said it’s a foul but never a red card, that’s what he said.

Yep, would probably have got away with it if the ref had only shown a yellow, but I think it would've been because the contact itself wasn't as bad as it could've been.
"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."
Notice it's an either/or with excessive force, but the fact he endangered his opponents safety with the lunge is enough to warrant the red.

It was never a red card and I think he might win an appeal. There’s always someone to say otherwise, such is the Internet.
But that’s just a distraction from the real talking point, which is United’s performance. Once of the worst I can recall, which is quite something given recent years.

Not sure you’ll try and appeal it.
Agree with your sentiment though, wasn’t the main talking point or the reason United lost.
