3-1 is a trashing in anyone's book, yes it was Brentford and they probably spent 1/100th of what City did, but it is still a good thrashing
What fraction of Liverpool’s budget did they spend though?
It’s football anyone can lose to anyone. Brentford are a decent side with a good manager.
Fair post OP, Brentford on their day can and have beaten anyone as you guys well know from a few weeks ago.
"Unless you wanna invest in that aspect of the game"
I think this is the concerning part. For the past five years Liverpool has been an incredibly athletic and physically able team. Robertson's comments after the game sum it up. Lack of aggression when defending, not being first to second balls. This would have been unthinkable 2-3 seasons ago. Whether by accident or design we've lost the physical edge to our game and have become easy to play against which makes the whole system fall apart.
Think it's probably a mix of certain players getting older and the switch towards a more technical-minded midfield. Not trying to pin blame on the young lad but Elliott shouldn't have started last night - that's on Klopp - he doesn't have the physical presence of someone like Wijnaldum who we have missed ever since he left.
The injuries this season also haven't helped but that's part of football.

Then what do you call getting pumped 0-2 at home by a worse team in Aston Villa?
You really are the smartest person I know
Brentford have lost 1 home game all season, they are a decent outfit.
Liverpool are just not very good this season, probably still make top 4 but levels below where they have been the last couple of seasons.
Klopp probably needs to build his next Liverpool side and has obviously already started, but it’s a process. United under Fergie had seasons and results like this also.
In summary, Brentford deserve respect, they’ve taken 10 points from their last 4 games:
City away
Spurs home
West Ham away
Liverpool at home
4 of last seasons top 7 sides
Yeah some perspective needed, brentford this season can really turn over teams. Whay I like about them is that their players where able to change their normal style and play a specific way against us to get their result. That is good flexibility. Something that we currently don't have, in terms of being able to change.ge it up a little. I am not saying we go long ball etc but change in formation etc
Still 6 pts of third and more than half season to go for.

It’s not the result that’s the issue it’s the performance. The warning signs have been there all season and if you couldn’t see them against Villa and Leicester then you never will.
This is not about Brentford, this is about a inconsistent Liverpool team that will struggle to make top 4 unless we invest over the next month.

Would one season out hurt Liverpool - I don’t think so. Klopp has shown he can build sides, it just takes time - Fergie had to do this as well.
This Liverpool side is at the end of the cycle and needs to build again. I think you lot need to just be patient

I thought Brentford was meant to be an easy fixture 🤷♂️
They’re a tough side, thought the main difference was finishing the chances.
If last night was a once off it wouldn't be too concerning but Liverpool have gone from a defensively sound looking team to one who look like conceding numerous goals every game.

And then at other end we are missing g clear cut chances and it is not just nunez. Salah is missing his typical amount and no one else is stepping up, mainly because we have 3 very good attackers missing.
Van Dijk's drop off has been a major factor. He was the best CB in the world before his injury but even last season he was one of the best CB's in the world. This season he has looked very average at times.
The trouble is The team is being rinsed by any team that works hard and has some intensity, that used to be our strength.
I’m wondering why we have signed another streaky winger and not some much needed power in midfield.

The teams old and at the end of its cycle - you need to identify the next VVD - Skriniar maybe.
Bellingham seems a no brainer for midfield and if you stuck Rice in there with him you will be set for a decade. You are looking at about £300m for a 3 though

We have a collection of good players, but not much of a team. Totally agree about bolstering the midfield and looking for a VVD replacement.
Brentford are a good side no doubt. They are not as good as Liverpool and whilst teams can have an off day and get beaten by a side not as good as you, this is nothing to do with an off day.
Many teams in the league are set up to play on the counter with quick attackers. Brentford more so than most. We play to their strengths with a high line. If you're playing to your opponents strengths then you need to finish your chances.
We aren't doing that so we need to stop playing to the strengths of the opponent and drop the line back. Everyone knows the blueprint to beat the highline. We need to adapt our game.
